Stanford University recently updated its EV charging policy. To park in an EV charging space, your vehicle must be plugged in and actively charging by initiating a session with Chargepoint. When you're done charging, move your vehicle so others can charge theirs and to avoid being cited.
Actively Charging refers to a vehicle plugged into an EV charger and currently drawing power as indicated by the charging station display. A vehicle is NOT considered actively charging if any of the following conditions apply:
|
- The EV charger display shows “Charging Complete” or “Return Plug.”
-
The vehicle is plugged in, but no active charging session has been initiated.
- The vehicle is not plugged into the charger.
- The vehicle is parked at a space with an out-of-service or inoperable EV charger.
- If you encounter an inoperable EV charging station, please email evcharging@stanford.edu
|
EV charging stations are available in Barron Garage on all floors except sixth and in the Bay Lot near Douglas Ave. For Frequently Asked Questions, go here.

Meet this year's Living Lab Fellow
|
Stanford Redwood City, in partnership with the Office of Sustainability, is hosting a Living Lab fellow for the second year to pilot interventions related to proper waste sorting.
Matthew Mettias, M.A. Candidate in Sustainability Science and Practice, will be designing, implementing, and testing behavioral interventions on the Redwood City campus to reduce the amount of food and other compostable material we send to the landfill.
Matthew says Hello!
I’m curious about why people sort their waste the way they do—or don’t. Growing up in Hawai‘i, where food was shared and nothing was wasted, I learned early that sustainability is as much about behavior as it is about systems. At Stanford, I’ve explored this intersection through psychology, sustainability, and hands-on roles—from mentoring students to conducting environmental fieldwork. I’m excited to learn alongside SRWC mentors and co-create solutions that reflect both data and cultural awareness.

Since April 2025, Stanford Redwood City Operations and Services by Medallion have partnered to implement a simple but powerful idea; recycling and repurposing partially-used toilet paper rolls.
Instead of sending rolls with less than an inch of paper to compost, custodial staff now collect and donate them to local agencies and non-profits such as the Day Worker Center and Building Skills Partnership.
In the last four months:
26 cases of toilet paper have been donated
$3,631 in value has been given back to the community
860 pounds of material has been diverted from the waste stream
This initiative not only reduces waste and saves money, but also highlights the important work of our custodial team, who are driving sustainability efforts with real, lasting impact.
