Hello all! It is wonderful to be communicating with you all once again. Happy, very belated New Year!
I am excited to be writing to you to share news of the wonderful success that we are having around our new Practice-Based Learning initiative. You may recall that last year our work on high impact practices, including PBL was highlighted in the Chronicle of Higher Education as a model to be considered by other colleges and universities. Likewise, if you’ve spent any time reviewing the UM-Dearborn strategic plan, you will see that PBL has now become the centerpiece of our campus identity. I am very excited that the college is leading the way in this exciting new approach to teaching and learning.
Every year the University of Michigan-Dearborn has an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate faculty for outstanding performance in teaching, service, and research. Congratulations to three CASL faculty members who will be receiving the university's "distinguished awards" at a reception in May!

CASL faculty, students and alumni are involved in a variety of classes, research, activities and philanthropy, and are making an impact locally, regionally and nationally.
Giving Blueday is Wednesday, March 15. Please join the UM-Dearborn community for Giving Blueday, our annual day of giving. For 24 hours, the UM-Dearborn alumni community has the opportunity to empower students, supporting an array of funds that directly translate into experiences, resources, and education. Now through March 15th, post a photo on social media showcasing your love for all things maize and blue using #UMDearbornGBD, or send us your photo at gbd-umdearborn@umich.edu. By spreading the word, you can help amplify our students' voices and the many important funds that make us uniquely UM-Dearborn.
The two-time UM-Dearborn alum and West Bloomfield superintendent talks about why she’s dedicated her life to education and what we stand to lose when we abandon our faith in public schools.
In order to ensure student success at UM-Dearborn and beyond, CASL faculty develop new majors that resonate with students and teach them the skills they need to be successful in an ever changing world. CASL's Behavioral and Biological Sciences degree, which investigates the intersections between biochemistry, psychology, genetics, neurobiology, behavior, immunology and anthropology, is one example.
Students trained in behavioral and biological sciences are uniquely prepared to enter careers in research or business, to pursue graduate studies or enter professional training such as medical school. Watch the video below to hear a student's perspective on the degree.
Gifts to the CASL Annual Fund provide opportunities for students and faculty to create and experience new programs!
