Alumni Day of Service 2019

On February 23, 2019, alumni from around the world united for one day with a common cause of giving back.

The Second Annual UCSB Alumni Day of Service mobilized the time, talent and energy of Gauchos worldwide to serve a worthy organization in their community. Individuals and organizations from all over participated in helping the environment as well as those in need. The power of UCSB alumni, students, and friends came together and made a huge difference this year.

In a Class of its Own

During his 11 years as executive vice chancellor, Gene Lucas ’73 estimates UCSB added about 1milliion square feet of new building space that cost approximately $1billion. “So, I am familiar with the process of getting buildings built,” Lucas writes.

Today, he is chair of the building committee for the first dedicated classroom facility in decades that will be available to the entire campus. With 5 lecture halls, several project-based classrooms and 30 discussion-section classrooms, the budget for the new building is just under $100million.

Deemed the highest priority by the Campus Planning Committee last year, the project now has an architect (LMN) and is aiming for completion of a schematic design in May.

Meugniot '94 will share his entrepreneurial journey from UCSB as well as network with Los Angeles Gauchos.

Guidance has been the leader in digital commerce for the past 25 years. Meugniot graduated with a BA in Religious Studies at UCSB.
He is Chairman of the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica as well as a Gaucho for Life Donor. Through this, he supports Alumni Graphic Design Intern, Gianna Ross '20.
