Psychology Professor Fanli Jia Wins Faculty Researcher of the Year Award |

Tips for Faculty to Increase Retention
Research shows that student interaction with faculty is key to student success and retention. Here are some best practices (adapted from the 2023 Student Voice Survey and Utah Tech University, 2024) on how faculty can continue to positively enhance the student experience.
Tip #3: Interact with Students as Individuals. Students feel encouraged when an effort has been made to get to know them. Encourage students to ask questions or make appointments during office hours. Use Compass to send early alerts and complete progress surveys so an advisor can reach out early and often.
Tip #4: Encourage Students to Interact with Each Other. Fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging can positively impact retention. Encourage students to connect with each other through joining clubs and organizations, small group activities, projects, or study groups.
