From the Dean

While our most recent graduates are immersed in the rite of passage that is the bar exam study period, we want to share exciting news about bar passage successes achieved by our talented recent alumni. According to American Bar Association data, FSU Law is the best law school in Florida and 28th best nationally in terms of 2018 graduates who passed a bar examination on their first attempt! Additionally, at a rate of 94.48%, we are among the nation’s top law schools in terms of class of 2016 graduates who passed a bar examination in any jurisdiction within two years of graduating. The hard work and dedication of our alumni is evident in these impressive results! We also believe the increased bar support services spearheaded by our Academic Programs and Student Advancement Offices are paying dividends, so we continue to look for innovative ways to support our students and recent grads who are studying for bar exams. Many graduates taking the bar exam in July are attending our supplemental bar prep classes this summer. We are proud of their dedication and anticipate seeing even higher rates of alumni excel on the bar exam in the future!

Summer Faculty Enrichment Workshops

Summer Faculty Presentations
In June, FSU Law Professors Jay Kesten and Hannah Wiseman presented "The Partisan Corporation," an interdisciplinary collaboration in its formative brainstorming stage, during a faculty luncheon.
During the summer months, fewer students take classes at FSU Law and our faculty members can devote more time to their scholarship. Part of that process is presenting their in-progress works to colleagues during a series of luncheons. Scholarship presented this summer was in various stages, but the enrichment workshops provided an opportunity for faculty to flesh out their ideas and get feedback from colleagues. One of the most beneficial aspects of these workshops is to get unique perspectives from scholars with a wide range of areas of expertise. This summer's faculty presentations included:
  • Shawn J. Bayern, “The Radical Implications of Modern Legal Organizations”
  • Courtney Cahill, “The New Maternity”
  • Avlana K. Eisenberg, “‘Tough Beats:’ Policing Streets and Prisons”
  • Jay Kesten and Hannah Wiseman, “The Partisan Corporation”
  • April Knill, “Stock Ownership of Federal Judges and Its Impact on Corporations”
  • Tahirih V. Lee, “Early Twentieth Century Shanghai as a Test Case for Hernando de Soto Polar’s View of Property Law”
  • Jake Linford, “The Proper Scope of Injunctive Relief in Trademark Cases: A Historical Perspective”
  • Michael T. Morley, “Vertical Stare Decisis and Three-Judge Courts”
  • Mark B. Seidenfeld, “Minimal Sovereignty and American Federalism”
  • Mark Spottswood, “Malleable Memories and the Law of Proof”
  • Kelli Alces Williams, “Market Testing Boilerplate”
