Dr. Edward Salo, professor of history and department chair, attended the Nonproliferation Policy Education Center's (NPEC) Space Policy Certificate Program. Participants examined space policy issues through lectures from leading experts and practitioners. Topics included the history of space exploration, military space strategy, the commercial space sector, and international diplomacy. The group also participated in a space conflict simulation in which they applied policy concepts in a strategic decision-making environment.

33 Faculty Members Complete Effective Teaching Certification |

Congratulations to the group of Arkansas State University faculty members who recently earned the prestigious Effective Teaching Certification after completing training with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE). ACUE is nationally recognized for its year-long professional development program, which provides educators with evidence-based teaching practices. The university news release includes the names of those newly certified.

Wimpy Offers Rural Election Analysis |
Dr. Cameron Wimpy, associate professor of political science, department chair, and director of the Institute of Rural Initiatives, was interviewed by a publication that emphasizes rural policy issues, The Daily Yonder. Wimpy commented on the challenges that election administrators continue to face in rural areas. He noted that one of election administrators’ top concerns is effective communication with voters, a problem made worse by the large number of community newspaper closures.

| Teague’s Career Interests are Featured |
Childhood encounters with ladybugs turned into the takeoff point for an article on Dr. Tina Gray Teague, professor of entomology and plant science. Teague, who is retiring following a 38-year career at A-State, also has an appointment with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture which featured her recently. A native of Northeast Arkansas, Teague’s memories go back to her family’s cotton farm at Caraway; she also recalls how her interest in agriculture developed.

Therapy Center Led by Brantley Wins Award |
Congratulations to Dr. Shanon Brantley, associate professor of communication disorders, and director of the Speak Out! Therapy & Research Center, in partnership with the Parkinson Voice Project. The center received the Exceptional Marketing & Outreach Award at the 2026 Lead with INTENT Symposium. The award, which included $1,000 to support programming and outreach across Arkansas, honors organizations that demonstrate outstanding efforts to increase Parkinson’s disease awareness and expand access to evidence-based speech therapy services.
