Day of Caring Projects a Success

United Way of the Capital Region’s Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) members spent Day of Caring prepping resources for our community’s new school readiness pilot project.

Members assembled 1,000 toolkits with supplies like books and crayons that will be used for the new education community pilot project. They also sorted and divided more than 10,000 school supplies that were collected during the “Tools for Schools Drive”.

The toolkits will be utilized by the new education liaisons who worked alongside WLN members to complete the tasks.

Completed kits will be distributed by our three partner schools Foose Elementary in Harrisburg, Newport Elementary in Perry County and The Kindergarten Academy in Mechanicsburg.

Special thanks to WLN Silver Sponsor KPMG, LLP for providing a large quantity of the books needed for this project.

Making an Impact This Thanksgiving

Due to the overwhelming popularity of the Women’s Leadership Network Thanksgiving project, we are offering two opportunities again this year.

The first project will be preparing a Thanksgiving meal for residents and staff of Catholic Charities Interfaith Shelter.  Volunteers will work with a chef from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to prep and prepare all the side dishes for the meal.

For the second project, we will return to New Hope Ministries, Inc., to help with their annual Thanksgiving food distribution. There will be two shifts available for this opportunity.

Both projects will take place on Saturday, November 18. Space for both opportunities is limited and registration is required. To register visit: http://uwcr.partnershipplanners.org/wln.
