In the past few weeks, there has been an increase in the amount of vandalism in the area. In particular, residents have reported their cars being egged in multiple neighborhoods throughout the Valley. Also, several community mailboxes were spray painted in mid-August. The Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District Parks Department cleaned up several of the mailboxes, which is costly to all residents. We strongly urge residents to report all crimes or suspicious behavior to Jefferson County Sheriff. If the Sheriff’s Office notices an increase in crime in an area, they will increase patrols in that area. If the crime is an emergency or occurring now, dial 911 immediately. For non-emergencies, dial 303-277-0211 or report the crime online.

The Master Association Board has directed staff to begin moving prairie dogs from the open space around the Manor House to release sites in the North and South Hogback as soon as possible. Staff plans on moving as many prairie dogs as possible by the end of the year with the overall goal of moving the remaining animals as additional release sites are found. Staff is working with contractor Deb Jones of Prairie Dog Action who will be responsible for capturing the prairie dogs and releasing them to their new home in other parts of Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space. The Ken-Caryl Ranch Prairie Dog Conservation Policy, adopted by both Boards over the past year, designates the open space around the Manor House as a No Prairie Dog Area in large part because of conflict with adjacent landowners. The policy establishes Ken-Caryl Ranch’s commitment to the humane treatment of prairie dogs and recognizes the species’ important role in maintaining healthy prairie ecosystems.
