Vandalism in the Area

In the past few weeks, there has been an increase in the amount of vandalism in the area. In particular, residents have reported their cars being egged in multiple neighborhoods throughout the Valley. Also, several community mailboxes were spray painted in mid-August. The Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District Parks Department cleaned up several of the mailboxes, which is costly to all residents. We strongly urge residents to report all crimes or suspicious behavior to Jefferson County Sheriff. If the Sheriff’s Office notices an increase in crime in an area, they will increase patrols in that area. If the crime is an emergency or occurring now, dial 911 immediately. For non-emergencies, dial 303-277-0211 or report the crime online.

Dakota Lodge Construction Phasing

The Dakota Lodge plans include a building addition, which will serve as the new multi-purpose room. This addition will be located on the southeast corner of the building, and will be the first phase of construction at Dakota Lodge. Once the addition is complete, the offices and youth programs will operate out of the addition while the original building is being renovated. The second phase of construction will provide for new, accessible restrooms, a nature center display area, a community and Ranger conference room, a dedicated classroom for environmental education, and a new and improved serving kitchen. The Rangers will also benefit from a dedicated restroom with a shower. The first phase of construction (the multi-purpose room addition) is expected to begin in October and be completed in December. The second phase of construction will follow phase one and finish in January of 2016. If you have any questions or concerns, please email bondprojects@kcranch.org.

Summer’s End Concert in the Park

Join your neighbors Sunday, Sept. 27 from 1-6 p.m. on the Ranch House East Soccer Field as we say farewell to summer and welcome fall with live music, food and fun! Bring your own picnic or enjoy one of the food trucks. We’ll have activities for the kids and live music from two great bands: Dr. Harlan’s Amazing Bluegrass Tonic from 1-2:30 p.m. and FourEver Fab Beatles Tribute Band from 4-6 p.m.! The event is sponsored by the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District, the Aden Team with Colorado Home Realty, Pugh-Bellmar Financial Services, Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District, and Ken-Caryl Community Network.

Town Hall Budget Meeting

The Town Hall Budget Meeting of the Ken-Caryl Ranch Master Association and Metropolitan District is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Ranch House. The meeting is held in conjunction with the September Joint Study Session. This meeting signifies the beginning of the annual budget preparation process and is the first opportunity for residents to provide input for the 2016 budgets. You can review the 2015 budgets for both organizations online to get an idea of what goes into the plans. For questions or comments, contact Master Association Executive Director Chris Pacetti at chrisp@kcranch.org or Metropolitan District Manager Darrell Windes at darrellw@kcranch.org.

Manor House Prairie Dog Colony Relocation to Start in September

The Master Association Board has directed staff to begin moving prairie dogs from the open space around the Manor House to release sites in the North and South Hogback as soon as possible. Staff plans on moving as many prairie dogs as possible by the end of the year with the overall goal of moving the remaining animals as additional release sites are found. Staff is working with contractor Deb Jones of Prairie Dog Action who will be responsible for capturing the prairie dogs and releasing them to their new home in other parts of Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space. The Ken-Caryl Ranch Prairie Dog Conservation Policy, adopted by both Boards over the past year, designates the open space around the Manor House as a No Prairie Dog Area in large part because of conflict with adjacent landowners. The policy establishes Ken-Caryl Ranch’s commitment to the humane treatment of prairie dogs and recognizes the species’ important role in maintaining healthy prairie ecosystems. If you have any questions, contact Sean Warren at seanw@kcranch.org or 303-979-1876, ext. 163.

Lunch Bunch for Preschoolers

Come join us for lunch with friends and some fun group games and activities! Kiddos will join a member of the Ken-Caryl Ranch Preschool staff for this enrichment hour. Lunch will be followed by 30 minutes of organized group play focused on gross motor development and social skills. Children must be 3-6 years old and potty trained. Please send your child with a cold lunch and shoes for running and playing. The first session is Tuesdays or Fridays from Sept. 8-Oct. 2 from noon-1 p.m. in the Community Center Lobby and Playground. Register online or by calling 303-979-4070 for Tuesday Course No. 31111 or Friday Course No. 31112. The fee is $50 for residents and $60 for non-residents for the four-week session.
