May 30, 2025

Dear Eagle Nation:
On Friday, May 23, I had the privillage of witnessing over 300 extraordinary graduating students cross the stage and officially become alumni of Coppin State University. Our 2025 Commencement Ceremony was a celebration of achievement, and a powerful reflection of Coppin’s enduring legacy of excellence and empowerment.
This year’s Commencement held special significance as it coincided with Coppin State’s 125th anniversary, a historic milestone that speaks to our resilience, our purpose, and our unwavering commitment to uplifting generations of students. For 125 years, Coppin has been a vital anchor in the community, preparing leaders, educators, innovators, and change agents.

We proudly awarded bachelor's, master's, doctoral degrees across a wide range of fields, including nursing, criminal justice, early childhood education, social work, marketing, health information management, and computer science. These degrees represent more than academic success; they mark the beginning of a lifelong impact in communities across the nation.
We were inspired by a moving keynote address from Dr. Lawrence T. Brown, who reminded us all of our responsibility to lead with courage and compassion. Also, Dr. Judith Willner was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in recognition of her 45 years in education and her ongoing volunteer service after retirement. A lifelong advocate for learning, Dr. Willner embodies the enduring spirit of Coppin.

We were also honored to welcome back alumni, spanning classes from 1958 to 2022. Their continued dedication over the decades is a testament to the strength of our Eagle alumni network and the lasting connection they hold with their alma mater.
