The first AI Center for Civic and Social Good program was held: “Women in AI"
The Women in AI Panel and Network event was the first program hosted by the new AI Center for Civic and Social Good. The event took place on March 23rd during Women’s History Month, and was jointly organized by SJSU and the City of San Jose. The panel discussion featured Amanda Renteria (CEO, Code for America); Sheryl Ehrman (SJSU, Dean, Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering); and Lili Gangas (Kapor Center, Chief Technology Community Officer); it was moderated by Sandy Hirsh (SJSU, Special Assistant to the Provost for AI Initiatives). The Google Higher Ed Faculty AI Fellowship empowers educators to: lead institutional transformation with AI initiatives; amplify professional impact through a global network of AI innovators; address key challenges in assessment, policy, or student outcomes; and master advanced AI tools to enhance research and instructional practice. - Google AI for Education Accelerator – Faculty Pilot Opportunity | Applications due March 31 |Contact: Yingjie Liu.
SJSU has been accepted into the Google AI for Education Accelerator, providing free access to Coursera training for Google AI Professional Certificates and Career Certificates that support foundational and applied AI skills development. A limited number of faculty will be invited to participate in a pilot cohort this semester to explore how these resources may inform teaching and curriculum development. To be considered, faculty are invited to submit a short application by March 31.

The Colleges of Humanities and Arts and Social Sciences will host a joint event exploring how AI is reshaping teaching, learning, and trust among faculty and students in the classroom. The conversation will highlight emerging challenges and share strategies for navigating pedagogy in an AI-mediated academic landscape. Learn more.

April 30 | 12:00–3:00 pm | Teaching with AI Faculty Showcase | Location: MLK AI Center (1st floor). Contact: Yingjie Liu.
The Teaching with AI Faculty Showcase will highlight thoughtful, ethical, and student-centered approaches to AI across disciplines through digital poster presentations and informal conversations with colleagues. There will also be exploratory AI tool demonstrations. Faculty are invited to share examples of how they are integrating AI into learning experiences, assignments, assessments, or classroom practice. All presenters will receive a certificate recognizing their contribution to campus teaching and learning innovation. Selected examples will also be featured on the CFETI AI Resources site and highlighted in an upcoming faculty newsletter. Deadline is April 15th to submit a short description of your example (for presenters) and complete the showcase event registration form (for attendees and presenters).
