BRENTWOOD – The final night of the regular season came with a big reward Brentwood High School football team: Thanks to some lock-down defense, the Bruins locked up home field advantage for the opening round of the state playoffs.
Facing Centennial in a contest that was drenched with postseason ramifications, the Bruins’ defense came up with a huge stop inside the 10-yard line in the game’s final two minutes to preserve a 15-9 victory over the Cougars before a massive crowd on the Brentwood campus.
For the Bruins, the Region 7-6A victory was more gritty than pretty. But it enabled Brentwood to secure the No. 2 seed for the playoffs — and they will play at home next week against Collierville, the No. 3 seed from Region 8-6A.
