Championship Soccer: Page repeats to cap historic, unbeaten season
By Charles Pulliam • Sports Editor
CHATTANOOGA – They say iron sharpens iron.
After 15 meetings in five years, including eight in the last two seasons, the Page High School girls’ soccer team is, well, pretty dang sharp when it comes to battling District 11-AA rival Murfreesboro Central Magnet.
The pair tangled Saturday for the Class AA state championship for a second season in a row and just like last year, the Page girls came out on top after a 3-0 victory at Red Wolves Stadium. The Patriots finished unbeaten – a school first – with a glistening 23-0-2 record.

Championship Soccer: BGA falls to USJ in 4th straight trip to finals
By Charles Pulliam • Sports Editor
CHATTANOOGA – Keaton Mitchell and Lindsey Summarell have been best friends for as long as they can remember, albeit that spat in sixth grade.
The pair have been playing soccer together for just as long. On Friday, the four-year starters ended their careers at Battle Ground Academy playing for a fourth consecutive Division II-A state championship, and third straight title matchup with University School of Jackson.
The girls didn’t get the storybook ending as USJ repeated as champions with a pair of second half goals for a 2-0 victory, but Mitchell and Summarell left it all on the field – like their teammates – and they said they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Football: Brentwood grinds out win over Cougars to secure home playoff berth
By David Dawson • Sports Writer
BRENTWOOD – The final night of the regular season came with a big reward Brentwood High School football team: Thanks to some lock-down defense, the Bruins locked up home field advantage for the opening round of the state playoffs.
Facing Centennial in a contest that was drenched with postseason ramifications, the Bruins’ defense came up with a huge stop inside the 10-yard line in the game’s final two minutes to preserve a 15-9 victory over the Cougars before a massive crowd on the Brentwood campus.
For the Bruins, the Region 7-6A victory was more gritty than pretty. But it enabled Brentwood to secure the No. 2 seed for the playoffs — and they will play at home next week against Collierville, the No. 3 seed from Region 8-6A.
