Day 5 - How to See Group Assignments in Student Preview Mode

Blackboard’s Student Preview mode is a super useful tool, but can be a little confusing at times. For example, if you’ve ever created a group assignment in Blackboard, you may have noticed that the assignment disappears in Student Preview mode. This is because instructors are not enrolled in any of the groups. Want to see the assignment as it appears to students? Here’s a hack for that:
  1. Enter student preview mode by clicking on the icon (see screenshot) at the top right corner of the screen.

  1. Next, click the Exit Preview button in the top right corner of the screen.

  1. You should see a pop-up message asking if you want to delete or keep the preview user data. Choose the second option, “Keep the preview user and all data.”

  1. Back in Instructor mode, go to your Users and Groups page, and select a group to join. Click “Edit Group”.

  1. Scroll down to the bottom of the group settings and click “Add Users” to add yourself to the group.

  1. Search for your preview user account, and add it to the group.

  1. When you toggle back to student preview mode, you will now see the group activity the way students see it.
