This week begins the Christian season of Advent (Dec.1–24), a time for radical hope and prophetic action in anticipation of Christmas, celebrating the nativity of Jesus.
In celebration of Christmas (Dec. 25), Hanukkah (Dec.18–26), Winter Solstice (Dec. 21), Kwanzaa (Dec. 26 – Jan. 1), and the coming new year, University Ministry wishes you a time of hope, reflection, peace, and blessings.

Friday, Dec. 2 | 12:30–1:15 p.m. PST | Zoom
Take a walk as we reflect and learn about the Advent journey through reflections, poem readings, music, scripture passages, and more. Advent is a time of waiting and expectations; a season of quiet anticipation and preparation that inspires us to be kind, loving, and compassionate toward one another. This event is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Registration is required.
Additional dates this month are Dec. 9 and Dec. 16.

Join for the exclusive pre-screening of Mission: Joy - Finding Happiness in Troubled Times. The documentary makes a profound and jubilant exploration of the remarkable friendship between Archbishop Desmond Tutu and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Inspired by the international bestseller The Book of Joy, the documentary welcomes viewers into intimate conversations between two men whose resistance against adversity has marked our modern history. Through rare archival footage and animation, the documentary reflects upon their personal hardships as well as the burden both men carry as world leaders dedicated to bringing justice to and fighting authoritarianism in their communities.

| | Ignatian Silent Retreat
Feb. 3 – Feb. 5 | El Retiro Jesuit Retreat Center
University Ministry is hosting the 2023 Ignatian Retreat at El Retiro Jesuit Retreat Center in Los Altos. This retreat offers an introduction to the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola.
During the retreat, participants are invited to explore the Ignatian style of prayer by reflecting inward and taking a closer look at their own individual experiences of God, and the sacred through the use of imagination and the Bible.
The cost is $100 for faculty and staff, and $50 for students. Financial assistance may be available.

University Ministry Director Angélica Quiñónez EdD, was the featured preacher at Catholic Women Preach on Nov. 20, 2022, for the Solemnity of Christ the King. Quiñónez preached in both English and Spanish. Catholic Women Preach brings the voices of diverse theologically-informed Catholic women to the proclamation of the Gospel to the global church. Quiñónez delivered an updated version of her reflection at the student liturgy on Sunday, Nov. 20.

USF News recognized Angélica Quiñónez as a first-gen staff member that is helping other first-gen students navigate higher education. Quiñónez currently serves as a co-chair for the Latinx Excellence and Belonging Initiative Working Group and is a member of the First Generation Collaboration Committee.
