Two legislators resign;
special election February 13
State Sen Mike Dugan (Senate District 30) and State Rep. Barry Fleming (House District 125) have resigned from the General Assembly. Dugan is resigning to run for the United States Congress and Fleming has accepted an appointment as a Superior Court judge.
These special elections will be held on Tuesday, February 13. Because these elections are to fill the current, unexpired terms, the outgoing (or current) legislative maps will be used. Three months later, on May 21, a primary election to determine nominees for the 2024 elections will occur under the recently, re-drawn legislative maps.
Members of all parties will run together in the special elections with no primaries to select nominees. If no candidate wins a majority on February 13, the top two candidates, regardless of party, would advance to a runoff on March 12, the same day as Georgia's presidential primary.
Dugan's current district includes Carroll and Haralson counties and parts of Douglas and Paulding counties. Fleming's district includes portions of Columbia and McDuffie counties.
