Good Evening:
From the Podcast Playlist: Top of the Tower Podcast #20 features a conversation with Gates Air about new transmitter technology, along with other broadcasting news.
From the Reading Pile: Mark your calendars: Next nationwide EAS Test: September 20, 2018.
Northeast
iHeart donates their WDFM-LP (Channel 26, Defiance, Ohio) to American Christian Television Services. Channel 26 signed on in 1992, and "TV26" features local programming and infomercials. American Christian Television Services owns WTLW-TV (Channel 44, Lima), and the agreement says the WDFM call letters have to be changed to mutually agreeable call letters. That's because iHeart still owns AC/WDFM (98.1fm, Defiance, Ohio).
Northwest
Over the summer, Lafayette Schools’ WJEF (91.9fm, Lafayette) went off the air, as part of building renovations. Students return to the air in about two weeks, and WJEF returned to the air. WJEF has new faculty leadership, under new general manager Jamie Long. Mr. Long succeeds Randy Brist, who retired after 34 years with WJEF.
Westcentral
This note from Jeffrey McCall, Faculty Supervisor at WGRE (91.5fm, Greencastle): WGRE-FM has a milestone year coming up, as they will celebrate their 70th anniversary of broadcasting in April 2019. WGRE was the first radio station licensed by the FCC specifically for educational purposes when it signed on at DePauw University in 1949. Today, WGRE is the largest student organization at DePauw, with some 200 students engaged each year. In August, WGRE will sign on for its next broadcast academic year, with its college alternative music format, public affairs and full coverage of DePauw and Putnam County sports.
Southeast
Tom and Diana Taylor sell their Classic Hits/WJCP (1460am, North Vernon) and W249DG (97.7fm, North Vernon) to Keith Reising, Jr.'s Jennings County Promotion Partners for $115,000, in addition to an LMA.
Southwest
The Indianapolis Colts will be heard on Midwest Communications' Classic Rock/WABX (107.5fm, Evansville),
