The Michigan Home Heating Credit can help offset some of those costs for qualifying homeowners or renters.
You can apply for the 2018 credit even if you do not file a Michigan state tax return.
Last year, 315,000 people applied for the credit, with the average being $191, according to the Michigan Department of Treasury.
To qualify, you must live in Michigan; you must own or rent a home or apartment, or a mobile home on a lot in a mobile home park; and you must meet income guidelines.
