Checklist for Spring Semester prep

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you prepare your Spring 2021 courses for delivery in Canvas:

Your Spring 2021 courses will start appearing in Canvas soon. If you do not see a course upon login to Canvas you may need to customize your course list so that your spring courses appear on your Dashboard.
If you would like to reuse content from a previous semester or master course you may import that content into your spring course.
If you plan to import content from a course that previously used Zoom, please watch this video tutorial.
If you would like to cross-list (merge) your courses, please contact Canvas Support for assistance (833.519.8478).

Need Support?

Canvas support is available 24/7 via the Help link on the Canvas global navigation menu. While in Canvas, choose from the Email (Report a problem), Phone (833.519.8478), or Chat options. If you find yourself stuck on “Hold,” you can email Canvas Support directly at support@instructure.com.
Panopto Support is available 24/7 by calling 855.765.2341.
For immediate help with technology in the classrooms, call 256-692-0588. Immediate classroom support is available 7:30 am–7:30 pm, Monday through Friday, except University holidays.
For help with other technologies, please contact the OIT Help Desk (256.824.3333; helpdesk@uah.edu).

QEPO 2021:
The Adventure Continues

UAH more than doubled its QEPO certified instructors in 2020, from 77 total in years past to 160 at the end of the first year of the newly redesigned QEPO pilot program.

We invite you to come and see what's new in QEPO and how it offers support for any faculty or staff involved in curriculum design for UAH students or for UAH peers or stakeholders in training. The basics of instructional design apply to any modality of delivery and to any type of learning experience, and the QEPO community is open to any UAH employee who is interested in participating in this vibrant and growing community of practice. To learn more or sign up, just check out the updated QEPO flyer and use the form within to register. Be sure to review the flyer first because there are a menu of choices to make as you customize your learning experience!

The Instruction Design Team (IDT) looks forward to helping you get started on updating or converting your course to digital format using both established and emerging best practice, resources, and tools as well as guiding you through compliance with privacy, accessibility, accreditation, and content licensing. We can help create a custom path for each faculty member to reach goals they set for themselves or in agreement with teams or administration. Live support sessions are always available upon request for individuals or teams.

MET&L Workshop Series Open Invitation

MET&L (pronounced ‘metal’) will meet weekly on most Wednesdays at 2 pm in the ETL virtual FRC on Zoom. Anyone interested in future sessions can sign up for the Zoom room link and reminders by emailing helpdesk@uah.edu. (Please specify which topic or whole series when signing up for reminders and Zoom links with calendar blocking.)

Whether you’re enrolled in QEPO, new to UAH, or want to share your great ideas with colleagues, we welcome you to join us Wednesdays at 2 pm. ETL also records these sessions and those recordings can be accessed by emailing us at helpdesk@uah.edu with requests for specific sessions or to make suggestions or requests for future topics.

The MET&L Workshop schedule will be published on the ETL events calendar, which will reflect the current schedule at any given time. See the schedule of upcoming session topics and bookmark this page!

New Canvas
Features Arrive!

For your convenience, several new features have been added to Canvas in advance of the spring 2021 semester. These include:

Assignment Enhancements (Students)
Analytics (Students)
New Rich Content Editor (All Users)
New Quizzes (All Users)

Need help preparing
for Spring Semester?

ETL will be holding virtual open office hours. Click on the link below to join the Zoom session anytime between 9 am and 4 pm Monday-Tuesday (1/11–1/12) with your questions/issues. Someone from ETL will be there to help.
