PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
October 18-19

The response to the new online scheduling system has been strong and parents may find that most teacher’s schedules are full for this event. If you find a schedule is full and still wish to talk with your student’s teacher, please feel free to email or phone him/her directly.  If you find your schedule has changed for October 18-19, or you have spoken to the teacher prior to conferences, feel free to cancel the appointment in the PickATime scheduler to allow another family the time with that teacher.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE DETAILS
WHERE:
Parent-Teacher Conferences will again take place in the East and West gyms. However, please note that the Learning Center teachers will be in the Learning Center.
WHEN:
Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Tuesday, October 18 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Wednesday, October 19 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
This is a check-in event.  Appointments are in 10 minute intervals, so time will move quickly.  We will ring the bells every 10 minutes to keep conferences on schedule.  Please be mindful of the next appointment.  Conferences will start and end promptly as noted above.

Brebeuf Jesuit's parent conversation series

Brebeuf Jesuit is excited to invite you to join us for our Parent Conversation Series—a series of engaging, empowering, and informative discussions Brebeuf Jesuit will be hosting over the next several months.
These discussions have been designed especially for parents of Brebeuf Jesuit students seeking to both enrich their relationships with their children, as well as support them as they traverse the path toward adulthood and college. During each session, parents will have the opportunity to learn from experienced counselors, therapists, and physicians, ask questions, and engage in discussion in a relaxed, open atmosphere.
For more details, including the series schedule, please click here.
The next event in the Parent Conversation series, Coffee with the Counselors, is scheduled for next Friday.

Student Spotlight

LUKE IFFERT '17
Loves About Brebeuf
I love that Brebeuf offers break times and the freedom to do what you want to do. I especially love the overall feel of togetherness that exists at Brebeuf.
Favorite Class
My favorite class would have to be AP government because I find learning about how our government operates interesting, especially with this upcoming election.
Future Plans
I plan on attending Purdue University, but I have not yet decided on what I will be studying.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Quarterback of the Brebeuf Jesuit football team (that defeated Cathedral last Friday night).
Random Fact
I was 3-0 in ping pong against Coach Haynes during my freshman year.
What has been your favorite Brebeuf experience or most memorable moment so far?
My favorite Brebeuf experience so far was probably my freshman year when we beat Chatard in football and then went on to the state championship game, because it was just such an awesome experience to be a part of.
Editor's Note: We interviewed Luke a few weeks ago, before Friday's huge win versus Cathedral. We are making the assumption that he might want to add this to the above answer. Congratulations to Luke and the Brebeuf Jesuit football team.
What do you think of…
Apple getting rid of the headphone jack on the iPhone?
I think it is a ridiculous idea because now people who don’t have wireless headphones, including myself, are going to go out and buy them.  Also, many people around my age like to plug their phones in their cars, with an aux cord, so now everyone will have to have bluetooth to play music in their cars.

Progress Reports

Progress Reports are now available to be viewed in the Portals. For returning parents, you can view this information in a new area. Your student’s most recent academic progress resides under the Scores tab in Portals.
Portals encountered a technical issue regarding grade narratives this week and the feature is currently disabled. The result is only current grade information is viewable with no written feedback from the teachers. Questions regarding academic performance should be directed to the classroom teacher.  We hope to have this feature running again soon to improve communication between the classroom and home.
Any technical concerns can be directed to Amy Pitcher at apitcher@brebeuf.org, or Jen Wagle at jwagle@brebeuf.org.

Volunteer Opportunities Now Available for Brebeuf Moms at Dayspring

Every Thursday, a group of four or five students, a Brebeuf Jesuit teacher, and a Brebeuf Mom will be traveling to the Dayspring Center (a homeless shelter for families) to serve lunch and engage in conversation with the staff and residents. This will be an opportunity for Moms to join students to learn more about homelessness in Indianapolis. This is the third year of our partnership with Dayspring and we have found it to provide truly meaningful service experiences.
The group typically leaves school at 11:00 a.m. and returns by 2:00 p.m.
You or your student can sign up for a trip to Dayspring by clicking here.
If you have any questions regarding our weekly trips to Dayspring, please contact Nick Klingler at nklingler@brebeuf.org.

Eric Shea '19 Volunteering with the Visitation Hospital in Haiti

Sophomore Eric Shea '19 and his mother, Dr. Lytitia Shea, are travelling to Haiti this week to volunteer with Visitation Hospital in Petite Rivere de Nippes after the severe devastation of Hurricane Matthews. Dr. Shea has been volunteering in Haiti for the past 14 years.
Visitation Hospital, a wonderfully designed, full-service clinic staffed by Haitian physicians, nurses and medical staff, is a Catholic organization that is overwhelmed right now and in need of help.  It is located on the southwest part of the island, which was in the direct path of Hurricane Matthew.
All Brebeuf Jesuit families that wish to assist Visitation Hospital in their mission of providing medical care to the poor can do so by clicking the link below.  No donation is too small and all donations are tax deductible.
Please visit www.VisitationHospital.org for more details and to support Eric and Dr. Shea!
