In Case You Missed It

Routine Asymptomatic Testing No Longer Required

Campus members who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated are no longer required to complete a weekly asymptomatic COVID-19 test. Testing remains available for all campus members who experience symptoms consistent with COVID-19, as well as those who have used the restroom facilities in a building that has a positive wastewater signal. Order, Build or Refresh Your Corsi-Rosenthal Air Filter

Corsi-Rosenthal Boxes are made from a box fan, several MERV-13 filters and duct tape and are used to clean indoor air from airborne virus particles, wildfire smoke, pollen and dust. These do-it-yourself fans supplement UC San Diego’s existing efforts to monitor the air quality and keep the campus as safe as possible.
  • Order a CR box: Faculty and staff may request boxes for classrooms, community spaces, lecture halls and offices across campus. You may request a fully assembled box—which are completed based on supply availability and can take at least a week to produce—or you may request a kit to build one yourself for your campus space. Order a CR box.
  • Attend an upcoming build-a-box event: Students, faculty and staff are invited to help refresh existing boxes with new air filters. Also, the boxes will be equipped with new QR codes that will link to instructions so anyone can operate and access the protection it provides. The event takes place on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Community Safety Center in Town Square. Those who would like to learn more about how they are created can visit CleanAirCrew.org.
  • Host a build-a-box event: Students, staff, faculty and community groups are also invited to host their own CR box build events. For more information on collaborating with the Community Safety Center on an event, please contact safecampus@ucsd.edu.

Your Questions Answered

Question: Is the natural immunity I get from being sick with COVID-19 better than the immunity I get from COVID-19 vaccination?
Answer: According to the CDC, getting a COVID-19 vaccination is a safer and more dependable way to build immunity to COVID-19 than getting sick with COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccination causes a more predictable immune response than infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine gives most people a high level of protection against COVID-19 and can provide added protection for people who already had COVID-19. One study showed that, for people who already had COVID-19, those who do not get vaccinated after their recovery are more than 2 times as likely to get COVID-19 again than those who get fully vaccinated after their recovery.

All COVID-19 vaccines currently available in the United States are effective at preventing COVID-19. Getting sick with COVID-19 can offer some protection from future illness, sometimes called “natural immunity,” but the level of protection people get from having COVID-19 may vary depending on how mild or severe their illness was, the time since their infection, and their age.

Question: How can I review and download my vaccination record from UC San Diego Health?
Answer: You can see information about all your vaccine doses and access a digital copy of your COVID-19 vaccine records or COVID-19 test results received through UC San Diego Health. To access your records:
  • Log into MyUCSDChart (employees) or MyStudentChart (students).
  • Go to the Menu at the top left. Under My Record, select "COVID-19." (You can also find vaccine records under "Immunizations & Screenings," but the QR codes and PDF downloads are not offered in that area of MyUCSDChart).
  • Select "QR codes" to generate a QR code or select "Download/Export" to generate a PDF copy of your results.
