"Expanding Our Reach:" A Collaboration With NSF and Local Institutions
|
On March 1, UNO's Dr. Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering hosted a meeting with the National Science Foundation and other local universities. The National Science Foundation (NSF) engineering education program director Dr. J. Kemi Ladeji-Osias and science analyst Dr. Dorian Davis met with key players from SUNO, Xavier University, Tulane University and UNO. Our meeting was focused on engineering education initiatives offered by NSF as well as our shared commitment to student success. Each university presented on the activities and success of their campus, identifying best practices and possible areas of future collaboration.
Recently, the Savoie College of Engineering was awarded a $1.2 million dollar grant from NSF to create a Center for Equity & Diversity in Engineering (CEDE) which will open in Fall 2023. The center, under the direction of LeAsha Moore, will be a safe space to support underrepresented groups in engineering as well as a place for students to learn more about employment and other opportunities.
