Greetings from the Department of Industrial Engineering at Clemson. With the Spring semester behind us, there is a sense of accomplished goals, chapters closing and anticipation of what the future holds for our graduates. Our continuing students have internships, co-ops and study abroad plans lined up, and our faculty are anxious to pour into their summer research.

Clemson IE has many things to celebrate. First, we are honored to be highlighting our inaugural group of Inspiring Excellence Distinguished Alumni and Young Alumni award winners. Our alumni have been leaving their mark around the globe for decades, and it is long overdue that we recognize such career achievements. Having these alumni attend our End of Year Celebration event in April was a special moment not only for them but also for all of us on campus. This celebration event was also memorable for our spring graduates and student award winners. Every year, I am amazed by the effort that our students give. It is also reflected in that nearly every graduate is either beginning a new job or attending graduate school.
Our faculty continues to excel, from significant research milestones (Jackie Cha receiving an NSF Career Award) to lifetime achievement recognition (Thomas Sharkey’s induction as a Fellow of IISE). Adding in the major research funding awards received by the faculty over the last year, Clemson IE remains a premier destination for students and researchers worldwide. For the second year in a row, our faculty achieved our highest research expenditures ever, the highest citation rate ever and our highest publication rate ever.
It also gives me great pleasure to share that our office manager, Denise Lennox, received the top staff award within the College this year. Without her tireless effort and daily persistence, our Department could not achieve all it does. This is also a recognition of how well the entire staff works together to make Clemson IE what it is today.
Please take time to visit any of our social media channels and keep in touch. We have many exciting things coming up in the next year, so pay attention. We’ll be in touch soon!
