Hope Center Ministries

The year 2020 was a tough one for many nonprofit organizations across Martinsville-Henry County due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Travis Byrd, director of Hope Center Ministries, said it threw them all for a loop.

"You didn't know how serious to take it, or no one knew what was going on or what to expect," Byrd said. "We really thought this would be a 30-day thing at the most. When 16 weeks went by and some of our guys still hadn't seen their families, we knew that was not good for them in their recovery and it wasn't good for their families."

Hope Center Ministries is a men's recovery center located in Axton at the site of the former Irisburg Elementary School. The motto of the center is "Restoring Lives, Restoring Families, Restoring Communities." Byrd said in order to live up to this motto, they had to get creative throughout the past year.

Congratulations to Dr. Jon's Urgent Care!

Dr. Jon's Urgent Care Center began seeing an immediate decline in the volume of patients seeking treatment and care as everyone became increasingly cautious to enter any building, even a doctor’s office, during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. As frontline workers and being responsible for the health of so many people in Martinsville and Henry County, staff immediately began looking for ways to provide healthcare to patients as safely as possible.

Due to the generosity of funding like the Pay It Forward MHC Grant, Dr. Jon's was able to work with its current electronic medical records provider and expand into TeleHealth services for all patients. Patients were able to still see providers and get the care that they deserve, without leaving their homes.

The office has also expanded its triage and treatment areas by adding a new isolation triage room to the facility with a separate entrance and a purification/ventilation system that cycles completely fresh air every 54 seconds.

The staff is proud of their ability to face this unprecedented pandemic with courage and strength. They have worked tirelessly to provide safe and courteous care to all of their patients, with an amazing amount of compassion and love. They have weathered the pandemic and will continue to provide top-notch care for years to come.
