Prof. Koumpias
Welcome to Professor Koumpias!
Prof. Antonios Koumpias, a specialist in applied micro and public finance, will join the economics faculty in the Fall 2017 term.  He is currently completing his Ph.D. at Georgia State University and specializes in tax policy, especially policy to increase compliance. He also works on health issues, for example studying the impact of state Medicaid expansions on mortality and illness.  In the Fall term, Prof. Koumpias will offer ECON 4085 Public Finance; in the Winter term, he will teach ECON 302 Intermediate Microeconomics.

Economics Internship
The Economics Internship (ECON398) offers students an opportunity to earn 3 credit hours of upper division economics credit and work experience related to economics.  This internship is restricted to economics majors who have successfully completed two of the three core courses (ECON301, 302, 305). Interested students should complete and submit the application form ideally a month before the intended semester.  The economics professors review applications and if approved, then students work with Prof. Kursman to find an appropriate placement.  She will suggest locations and provide contact information, then the student sets up interviews.
Economics interns will have academic assignments in addition to their on-site work to assure connections are made between course material and “the real world.”  We highly recommend doing an economics internship in your junior or senior year. It’s an opportunity to explore a possible career path and get work experience related to your major.
Recent economics internship placements include the Eight Mile Boulevard Association, the Citizen’s Research Council, and the Export Assistance Office-Department of Commerce.

In August 2016 the Department of Social Sciences established the Behavioral & Experimental Economics & Policy Laboratory (BEEP Lab) thanks to the generous gift of UM-Dearborn alumnus, Kevin Verner, and financial support from the Department of Social Sciences. The lab is located in SSB 1160 and it shares the space with the flexible space classroom. The researchers in the lab use experimental economics methods and a behavioral economics approach to study individual and group behavior to design better public policies.
If you have questions about the lab or would like to become a sponsor of the lab, please contact the director Prof. Natalia Czap or the associate director Prof. Hans Czap.
