Join us! Our Blue Planet: Earth Webinar
Mar 23, 2022  1:00 - 2:00 pm MT
Oceans define our home planet, covering the majority of Earth’s surface and driving the water cycle that dominates our land and atmosphere. Join STAR Net and Dr. Michael Wood, a NASA Postdoctoral Program fellow in the Sea Level and Ice Group as we explore how Earth’s oceans are changing and how that impacts Earth as a global, dynamic system.

Whether or not your library is participating in the Collaborative Summer Library Program’s 2022 theme “Oceans of Possibilities” this webinar can help prepare you to engage your patrons in discussions about the future of our planet, and even worlds beyond our planet! We will also be sharing resources about other ocean worlds that span our Solar System and beyond.

Come join the great discussions going on in our ALA Connect Affinity Groups!

As part of the NASA@ My Library program STAR Net is partnering with the American Library Association to facilitate Affinity Group discussions for libraries to discuss important topics!
Affinity Groups convene on a variety of member-defined topics designed to help build the capacity of library professionals to incorporate NASA SMEs and NASA STEAM activities into their programs and services while supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). Affinity Groups meet in small groups to foster discussion; these meetings will be held at various frequencies, as needed.

Celebrating Earth’s Oceans, Protecting Our Future

STAR Net’s Our Planet: EARTH campaign is a celebration of NASA’s focus on understanding how Earth’s oceans are changing and their impact on sea life and our weather and climate systems. What happens in the ocean impacts not only our coasts but the whole country, because Earth is a global, dynamic system.

Public libraries across the U.S. and beyond are invited to participate in this campaign and take advantage of the many resources that are available on this campaign website and others that we link to. Resources include STAR Net’s STEM Activity Clearinghouse activities, videos, images, a media toolkit, live streaming events, and relevant Citizen Science activities.

During the summer of 2022, 16,000 libraries across the country will celebrate earth science in their summer learning programs. Join the fun!

The STAR Library Network (STAR Net) is a hands-on learning network for libraries and their communities across the country. STAR Net focuses on helping library professionals build their STEM skills by providing “science-technology activities and resources” (STAR) and training to use those resources.
STAR Net is built upon a strong network of collaborators and partners, led by the Space Science Institute’s (SSI) National Center for Interactive Learning (NCIL). Partners include the American Library Association’s Public Programs Office, Collaborative Summer Library Program, Chief Officers of State Library Agencies, Lunar and Planetary Institute, Education Development Center, Twin Cities PBS (TPT), Institute for Learning Innovation (ILI), University of Colorado. Funding is provided by the National Science Foundation, and the NASA Science Mission Directorate.
