Team and Family Update

From Collegiate Freshman to College Seniors

We are preparing to celebrate an incredible milestone - our founding KIPP Nashville Collegiate High School class of 2018 will be graduating from college beginning as soon as next month. With an average ACT score of 22.1, this class set a high bar for excellence. As we look ahead toward May 2022, we anticipate this trailblazing group of students will graduate from college at almost twice the rate of their Nashville/Davidson County peers.
Our alumni have persisted through unprecedented circumstances, many moving back home and attending college virtually or switching paths all together since the pandemic began. Our KIPP Forward team has worked tirelessly to meet the needs of students and walked with them on the path toward a choice-filled life and a meaningful career.

The Science of Career

"This puts students much more in the driver seat to make the best decision when it comes to chasing their dreams." - Ms. Fernandez, 11th Grade College & Career Readiness Instructor at KIPP Nashville Collegiate High School
As students begin junior year at KIPP Nashville Collegiate High School, our college and career instructors start working with KIPPsters to identify what career path they want to pursue after high school graduation.

This year, Collegiate is using a program called YouScience to help students figure out what that next step looks like. YouScience is a 90-minute aptitude assessment filled with brain games to analyze the natural talents of each student and connects them to over 500 career options that they would perform well at based on their strengths. Students engage with the platform even before beginning college research. The YouScience assessment sets the foundation for the year, that regardless of whether college is part of the path after high school, a sustainable, prosperous, and fulfilling career is the real end goal.
“I was a little surprised, because some of the jobs I matched with I wasn’t expecting, like veterinarian or computer engineering. And I learned new things about myself, like I’m apparently more present thinking, and I always saw myself as looking into the future.” - Aaron, KIPP Nashville Collegiate HS junior
