Spotlight on Legislative Advocacy: Protecting your Right to Practice
Your Guild staff, volunteers and colleagues have been hard at work protecting your right to practice.
Ohio
HB 255 would add a definition of “nontherapeutic massage” as massage techniques that are not performed for treatment of disorders. Those who practice nontherapeutic massage would be exempt from licensure requirements, but registration would be required. The only exemptions would be for students and individuals who are licensed in certain other professions. Because the definition of massage is so broad, bills like this are often interpreted to apply to non-massage professions. Fortunately, there were a number of other issues with the bill, so it will not be moving forward.

Listening with Your Whole Body:
An invitation to Feldenkrais® Practitioners to learn about David Kaetz’s somatic approach to the improvement of the auditory sense, with special emphasis on the vocal and auditory aspects of ATM teaching.
This is a preview of a three-part on-line series scheduled for February 15th, 16th, & 17th, 2024, sponsored by the Canadian Region, and open to FGNA membership. David will teach a short experiential exercise and lead a discussion on how we use ourselves in teaching.
There is more to walking than feet, more to learning than school, more to communicating than words, and more to listening than ears. Becoming aware of how we use our whole selves in both speaking and listening can lead not only to better hearing, but also to surprising and delightful improvements in our relationships with ourselves, with others, with nature, and with music.
Listening with Your Whole Body is an innovative approach to the auditory sense, based on the Feldenkrais Method®, the practice of mindfulness, ancient and modern acoustical research, the findings of neuroscience, and a life in music. It was developed by David Kaetz, a Canadian Feldenkrais teacher, musician, storyteller, and author of three books on the connections between somatic work and the inner life: Listening with Your Whole Body, Making Connections, and The Ezekiel Code.
For more info about David’s work, books & music: www.listeningwithyourwholebody.com. His books are available from Feldenkrais Resources, and, in Canada, in both official languages, directly from the author.
