Welcome Becky Brathal, Regional Crops Educator

Hi, I'm Becky Brathal. I'm the new Regional Crops Educator. I grew up in St Croix County and currently live in Woodville, and farm with my husband and his family north of Woodville. I grew up loving the rural life which led me to a career in Natural Resources. Some of my career has been working for non-profits and government agencies working on wildlife conservation and agriculture. I'm fasinated by how both of these areas have so much in common and how they work together. I'm excited to bring my love for agriculture to UW-Extension and look forward to meeting and working with you.

Drought Resources

Small Business Administration Low Interest Loans

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is reminding small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture, and most private nonprofit organizations that July 5 is the filing deadline for federal working capital loans due to drought that began on Nov. 1, 2022. Low-interest disaster loans are available in several Minnesota counties and the bordering counties of Pierce, Polk and Saint Croix in Wisconsin. Under this declaration, the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program is available to eligible farm-related and nonfarm-related entities that suffered financial losses as a direct result of this disaster.

Farmland Values in Wisconsin Continue to Increase

A report from the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Division of Extension found the average price of agricultural land sold in the state last year was $5,551 per acre. That's 11 percent higher than in 2021 and nearly 24 percent higher than in 2020.
