DECEMBER VOLUNTEERING
Greetings, Volunteers!

Holiday season is in full swing, but Giving Tuesday reminds us to pause and think about ways we can give back. Whether or not you are able to donate to your favorite charity or nonprofit today, you can continue to support local nonprofits and organizations by volunteering this holiday season and throughout the year.

To sign up for an event this month and receive a month of free Garbage to Garden service, RSVP by email and we will help answer any questions you may have. Then simply send confirmation of your volunteer hours to volunteer@garbagetogarden.org to receive credit.

Happy Composting,

Help with snow shoveling!

The Age-Friendly Portland Steering Committee is looking for volunteers to shovel snow for an elderly neighbor this winter. Volunteers are needed in all Portland neighborhoods.
Volunteers are asked to shovel the steps and a path from the front door to the sidewalk, as well as the sidewalk in front of the property.
The idea is to create a path which allows the senior citizen, emergency response personnel, Meals on Wheels delivery people, mail carriers, and other visitors to get in and out of the house safely.
Email Linda for more information or to sign up!
Help us fill bags of compost!
We need lots of extra hands to help fill bags of compost to keep up with demand – until the compost pile freezes!

Compost bagging begins on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9am at our shop in Portland (as long as it is not raining).
Come lend a hand for ~1.5 hours in exchange for one month of free service!

Please call ahead on the day you intend to volunteer as this is outdoors and weather-dependent. Please dress for the weather and don't forget to wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty!
Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program
Hungry neighbors in our community need your help to feed their families! Mid Coast Hunger Prevention has several initiatives that work to address food insecurity, and volunteers play a vital role in fulfilling their mission by preparing meals, distributing groceries, picking up donated food, and a variety of other tasks.

This month, MCHPP could use volunteers to sort food donations in the mornings from 8:30-11:30 Monday through Saturday or do advanced meal prep Monday through Thursday afternoons.
First Baptist Church of Portland Food Pantry
The FBC food pantry serves hundreds of individuals each month by collaborating with local fresh food sources and distributing to families in need. FBC is seeking volunteers to organize/distribute food and/or break down and clean up. They are operating a 'no contact' food pantry for the safety of volunteers and patrons.
