The Association for the Study of African American Life and History has announced the 2026 theme for Black History Month: “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” which honors how Carter G. Woodson’s concept of “Negro History Week” has evolved to become an annual, month-long, scholarly and sustained movement to study, teach and disseminate Black history.
Improving the resources, options, and support for Black students is a constant, sustained effort at NOCCCD. At the most recent board meeting, the NOCCCD Board of Trustees approved out-of-country travel for 17 individuals to attend the All-African Diaspora Education 2026 Summit (ADES) in Ghana, Africa. Additionally, to demonstrate its commitment, Fullerton College specifically defined becoming a recognized Black-Serving Institution under California SB 1348 in its 2025-29 Strategic Plan Proposal last year. This is a designation the college is well on its way to achieving.
Both college campuses are holding a variety of Black History Month events until the end of February.

NOCCCD Announces Dr. John Parker as New Vice Chancellor, Administrative Services |
Following Board of Trustees approval on January 27, 2026, the North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) is delighted to announce that Dr. John Parker has been selected as the new Vice Chancellor, Administrative Services. Dr. Parker is a seasoned higher education executive with more than 20 years of senior-level leadership experience. He most recently served as Vice President of Administrative Services at San Diego City College, where he oversaw a $110 million operating budget and more than $7 million in grant funding.
“I am honored to join North Orange County Community College District and am grateful for the confidence of the Board of Trustees and the Chancellor’s Cabinet,” said Dr. Parker. “NOCCCD’s commitment to student success, equity, and access aligns closely with my own values. I look forward to working collaboratively with the Board, the Chancellor and District leadership, our talented teams at Cypress College, Fullerton College, and NOCE, and our community partners to ensure the District’s resources, systems, and facilities are aligned with student-centered outcomes and long-term fiscal sustainability.”
Dr. Parker is scheduled to begin in March 2026.
