WLN E-Newsletter Spring 2019 WLN Makes an Impact on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day For the fourth year in a row, United Way of the Capital Region’s Women's Leadership Network (WLN) members and their children celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr., Day by volunteering in our community. This year WLN members worked on two different projects in the Capital Region.  The first group helped pack food distribution boxes at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. The food was then distributed to families impacted by the partial Federal Government shutdown.   The second group volunteered at Capital Area Head Start where they worked on several projects including painting crates for little libraries and making bookworm buddies for local children. The items will be distributed to children involved in our Ready for School, Ready to Succeed program. Thank you WLN members for making MLK Day, a day on instead of a day off! Messiah College President Dr. Kim Phipps Save the Date for Spring Conversations Event Join us for our upcoming Conversations with Women Who Make a Difference event. Hear from Messiah College President Dr. Kim Phipps about her path to leadership and insights on the importance of community engagement. We’ll also celebrate our stellar year and recognize our new members. Enjoy the beauty of Messiah College and a great afternoon of networking with fellow women leaders. This is a great opportunity to bring along prospects so they can learn more about WLN! Formal invitations will be sent in early April.   Date: Thursday, May 2, 2019 Time: 3-5 p.m. Location: Messiah College’s Eisenhower Campus Center – Martin Commons RSVP by Thursday April 25 to events@uwcr.org.  Breakfast Bag Items Needed! Women’s Leadership Network will once again partner with The Foundation for Enhancing Communities’ Women’s Fund to pack Breakfast Bags for local children who are involved in summer feeding programs. In preparation for the packing event, we’re looking for companies to hold collection drives for needed items. For a list of needed items and information about holding a drive, contact Heidi Neuhaus, director of the Volunteer Center, at hneuhaus@uwcr.org.
