In a story you'll first read here, Brian Green joins Lafayette's Star City Media (radio and TV stations) as their Director of Sales. Before joining Star City Media, Mr. Green was across town, as GM for the Neuhoff Media/Lafayette cluster (that's a cluster formerly owned by Schurz Communications).
Southcentral
In a story you'll first read here, Sarkes Tarzian's AAA/WTTS (92.3fm, Bloomington) replaces their BE FM 30T transmitter with a new Nautel GV30 transmitter at their Trafalgar tower site.
Southwest
Where Are They Now? Former WSTO morning host Atom Smasher joins KNDE in College Station, Texas for mornings ("Katy and Smash"). The morning show will debut this morning.
This Week in Indiana Radio History
Sign-on dates seem to be a prickly matter, subject to great debate, and mostly impossible to confirm. If there's something we need to add to the "calendar," please let us know. Please e-mail us if you have updated information.
November 6: In 1964, 97.1fm in Shelbyville signed on as WSVL-FM. It's now WLHK. In 1998, 1620am in South Bend signed on as WJVA. It's now WDND.
November 7: In 1969, 100.1fm on Angola signed on as WAFM. It later moved to 100.3fm, and it's now WLKI. In 1972, 1140am in Hawesville, Kentucky signed on as WKCM. It moved in the 1980s to 1160am, but remains WKCM. In 2006, 101.3fm, then-licensed to Morganfield, Kentucky signed on as WMSK-FM. It remains WMSK-FM, but is now licensed to Sturgis, Kentucky.
November 8: In 1966, 92.7fm in Decatur signed on as WADM-FM. That 92.7fm allocation moved to 105.1fm (today's WQHK-FM), while another 92.7fm (now licensed to Berne) signed on later. In 2016, WERT(AM) (1220am, Van Wert, Ohio) added an FM translator at 104.3fm (W270BL).
November 9: In 1955, 1570am in Kendallville signs on as WKTL. It moved in the late 1960s to 1140am and it's now WAWK. In 2016, WRIN(AM) (1560am, Rensselaer) added an FM translator on 104.5fm (W283CO).
November 10: In 1969, 91.1fm in Gaston signed on as WDHS. It later signed off. In 1972, 103.9fm in Crown Point signed on as WFLM. It's now WXRD.
November 11: In 1949, Channel 10 in Bloomington signed on as WTTV-TV, for owner Sarkes Tarzian ("Tarzian TeleVision"). In 1954, it moved to Channel 4, and remains WTTV-TV (owned now by Tribune Broadcasting).
Employment Opportunities
WBCL in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is starting an Urban Gospel and Praise online station. This will not be another online jukebox. This station will have the same mission as WBCL with the same personality-oriented and community-driven mindset.
We need our first full time employee to be someone who has a passion for interaction with listeners on-air and in person within the African American community.
You must:
• Have at least three years of on-air terrestrial radio experience
• Strong social/digital media skills
• Experience with scheduling music using MusicMaster software
• Extensive audio production experience using Adobe or similar software
• Be willing and able to host the am drive slot (6am to 10am weekdays)
• Have complete and enthusiastic buy-in to our mission
• Know this music format on a deep level
• Be very comfortable interviewing people from all walks of life for live shows and longer pre-recorded interviews
• Look forward to being the initial champion of this station to the public
• Understands how and able to create fun, entertaining, local radio
