Now that we're into the second half of July, we have a lot of stuff going on to welcome you to campus in just a few weeks! First and foremost, this edition of the newsletter provides you a quick preview of orientation and some more things to do to prepare for your arrival to campus: summer send-off dates, virtual welcome dates, and the book chosen for all new students' summer reading colloquium.
We also want you to keep an eye out for some more upcoming deadlines, including your bill, fall move-in dates, and the deadline to submit your placement credit exams and upload your One Card photo (psst, it's today!)
This edition wraps up with another look into how to make American University feel a bit more like home, including a surprising trick to ace your exams!

"Make a schedule of all your assignments as soon as you get your syllabi. This is something that I did not do my first few semesters but wish I had. This has been so helpful for a lot of people on campus."

📍 New Student Orientation is fast approaching, and we're here to help you prepare! More information will be coming to your AU emails in a few short weeks, but we want to share a preview of what's to come:
Dates and Times
After move-in weekend, orientation will take place Tuesday, August 20 - Friday, August 23. During this time, all students will participate in required sessions from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., with an array of optional (but encouraged) programming each evening.
There is no formal sign-up process for orientation. All students will receive orientation information specific to themselves in their AU emails.
Preparation
There are three ways to best prepare for orientation:
|
- Keep working through your Flight Ready! Canvas course to familiarize yourself with the services and resources available to you here.
- Join us for our final New Eagle Essentials webinar, this Saturday, July 20, which gives you an opportunity to connect faces and names with key offices on campus and the services they provide the AU community.
-
Continue working your way through the New Student Checklist and checking your AU email on a weekly basis (if not more frequently) for more updates coming soon!

| REQUIRED: Summer Reading for College Writing Course
|
📖 As part of your first-year College Writing class, we have chosen a "community text" that you will refer to for discussion and writing in your College Writing course. This year's community text is Dr. Ashley Shew’s Against Technoableism: Rethinking Who Needs Improvement. Dr. Shew will be at American University this fall during the 27th Annual Writer as Witness Colloquium, where she will address the AU community and meet with students and faculty to discuss the book, as well as the craft, artistry, and research that went into its creation.
To learn more about the colloquium and where to purchase a copy of the book, click the button below.
