Lightning & Thunder Pool Safety |
|
|
We understand it’s disappointing when pool plans are disrupted by thunder or lightning closures. Weather conditions can change suddenly, and everyone’s safety is a priority. If lifeguards are on duty, they are trained to follow Red Cross guidelines, which state to leave the water at the first sound of thunder or sight of lightning. This applies to the recreational pool, hot tubs, and lap lanes. These bodies of water will then reopen after 30 minutes of not seeing lightning, or hearing thunder. Depending on the closeness of lightning, you may also be asked to come inside the building, away from tables and umbrellas. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.
Did you know the Rifle pool is closed for the season following a suspected lightning strike on July 31? We’re glad patrons and employees are all safe. Read the article here: Rifle Pool Closes following Suspected Lightning Strike

|
Please note that we may need to make additional adjustments as we enter the month of August.
|
| As in years past, we will soon say goodbye to many of our summer staff as they return to school in the upcoming weeks. A big thank you for all of their efforts, they did a great job this summer!
Beginning the week of August 14, the pool and snack bar will be staffed on weekends only through the Labor Day holiday. Members may still enjoy the pool during the week. However, the slide will not be operable and there will be no lifeguards on duty during that time.

Did You Know | Community Governance
|
RVR is a special place and there are various details about the community that many may not be aware of, including how community governance works. Did you know that RVRMA is governed by a set of legal documents that regulate how the association operates? As an example, according to Colorado law (CCIOA), 67% of RVR’s 554 property owners would have to vote to change uses to which any lot or unit is restricted. The bar is set intentionally high, to make sure any changes adopted are ones the community really wants. Other voting thresholds are also outlined within RVRMA’s own governing documents.
You can learn more about the various governing documents and how we make use of them below. There is a legal hierarchy associated with these documents, as an example, CCIOA is set by the state of Colorado. If there is a contradiction between an HOA’s CC&R’s and CCIOA, then CCIOA always supersedes.
|
|
|
-
CCIOA The Colorado Common Interest Ownership Act (CCIOA) is a set of laws that govern the formation, management, powers, and operation of common interest communities (HOAs) in Colorado.
-
Articles of Incorporation The Articles of Incorporation outline broadly the Association’s purpose, its authority/powers (including structure of the Executive Board, voting rights and amendment provisions).
-
The Amended and Restated Master Declaration of Protective Covenants The ‘CC&Rs’ or ‘Declaration’, as it is commonly called, elaborates on the HOA powers and administrative authority granted in the Articles of Incorporation.
-
RVRMA By-Laws These will address rules and processes like how many people are on the board, what constitutes a quorum, how often various board and community meetings occur, how elections are conducted, notices to homeowners, and assessments.
-
There are also Policies and Procedures and Rules and Regulations that address owners rights and obligations.
You can learn more by reading the Governing Documents page on the website.

Green Tip | Recycling Technology |
If you've been recycling a long time, you probably feel confident that you know what can and can't be recycled. But recycling technology changes, and the products you buy may also materially change. According to Mountain Waste and Recycling, the material recovery facility that it uses is pretty high tech and allows for items to be recycled that may not be allowed elsewhere. You are now able to recycle plastics #1-7, including plastic clam shells. Clam shells are generally square containers typically containing produce like spinach, cut fruit, or cherry tomatoes. These have traditionally been hard to recycle due to their light weight. You can also recycle beverage bottles with their plastic lids. The lids must be attached to the bottle, as they are too small by themselves for the equipment to manage. Empty aerosol cans that contained things like hairspray or shaving cream can also be recycled. Check out Mountain Waste's website for more information on current do's and don'ts of recycling. There is also a Waste Wizard feature where you can type in a product to see if it is recyclable. Residential Recycling - Mountain Waste & Recycling
