Keeping Toros Informed

To keep the CSUDH community up to date with the latest news and developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the fall semester and campus operations, this newsletter will be providing routine updates throughout the crisis.

Spring Semester

In a letter to all California State University students and employees, Chancellor Timothy P. White announced that the system will continue in a primarily virtual format for the rest of the academic year, given the uncertainty about the COVID-19 pandemic and to allow time for proper planning to take place.

National Preparedness Month

Each September is designated as National Preparedness Month to promote family and community disaster readiness. This year's pandemic and the currently raging California wildfires have made the need for such planning more apparent. The Toro community is encouraged to visit the Ready.gov website for information and resources on how to prepare a disaster/emergency plan.

This month is also the perfect time to review and update your emergency contact information with the university. Log in to your my.csudh portal, select ‘My Personal Info,’ then ‘Toro Alert (Update Contact)’. In cases of emergencies that directly impact the campus community, the Toro Alert emergency notification system will provide timely alerts via text, phone, and email.

Student Flu Shots

The Health Center will hold a free Flu Shot Clinic for CSUDH students on Thursday, September 17, from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm. Flu shots will be made available via a drive-through model, although limited walk-ins (with appropriate social distancing in place) will be allowed for students who are already on campus for classes.

The clinic is being held in the small parking lot between the Student Health Center and University Theatre, off Toro Center Drive. Instructions for vehicle traffic will be posted at the site.

This event is intended for students only, as the Health Center received a smaller-than-usual supply of flu shots this year. Faculty and staff are advised to contact their health care provider for flu shot information.

This year, getting a flu shot is highly encouraged by the CDC and other health experts. Due to the overlap of symptoms between the flu and COVID-19, it is advisable to take the flu out of the picture and to focus limited health care resources where they’re needed most.

Students can make flu shot appointments by calling the Student Health Center at (310) 243-3629.

Toro Pantry Food Distribution

CSUDH Basic Needs is distributing ready-made bags of food to currently enrolled students in need. Their next food distribution event is on Thursday, September 17, from 10 am until noon. Distribution will continue every other Thursday and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

An email to students' Toromail accounts with a link to register will be sent the week of each distribution. Pre-registration is required. Bags are limited to one per student, and students must show ID at pick-up.

Pull-Up Farmers Market

The CSUDH Farmers Market has reopened on a biweekly, drive-through basis. The next market will take place on Thursday, September 17 from 10 am to noon. Pre-packaged produce boxes, single items, and custom orders will be available on site. EBT, EBT Pandemic, WIC, and all major credit cards are accepted.

The market will take place in Parking Lot 1. Follow the directional arrows, and please stay in your vehicle and wear a mask when pulling up to the market.
