Reiners Joins DFE

In August, DFE welcomed Lee Reiners MPP '11 into the role of lecturing fellow. Previously, Reiners led the Global Financial Markets Center at Duke Law and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Reiners teaches courses on financial regulation and the law and policy of fintech, cryptocurrencies, cybersecurity and climate change. DFE is now home to two sites founded and managed by Reiners, The FinReg Blog, a forum for experts in the financial regulatory space, and the Climate Risk Disclosure Lab, a research hub for information on climate-related disclosure standards.

Major news outlets interview Reiners frequently for his take on the latest in financial policy and crypto. (He was made especially busy by the FTX bankruptcy in November.) Follow DFE on Twitter, @DFE_Duke, to read about Lee and other DFE faculty in the media.

Summer Personal Finance Course Made Possible by Robinhood

DFE Teaching Director Emma Rasiel and Reggie Love '05, former Duke basketball player and personal aide to President Obama, will collaborate on a new personal finance course offered over the summer. Online trading platform Robinhood announced in October that they will fund the course as part of their Money Drills Initiative, which promotes financial literacy for college students.

Fall Events and Activities

DFE offered four educational competitions to sophomores, with 307 students participating in at least one.

107 sophomores were matched with alumni in the financial markets as part of our mentor program, an annual Eichel Finance Advising Network offering.

DFE Executive Director John Caccavale's Markets Discussion Group drew 142 undergrads across all class years for sessions on the ongoing effects of inflation in the U.S. and abroad.

70+ students participated in an AmplifyME Finance Accelerator Simulation, gaining hands-on experience in sales & trading and asset management roles.

Ashi Varia '98 and Ryan Tolkin '08 each hosted lunch & learn sessions to share career insights with students.

In November, DFE Executive in Residence Linsey Hughes interviewed Jon Hilsenrath '89, Wall Street Journal Senior Writer, for an audience of students, faculty and staff. Hilsenrath discussed his new book, Yellen: The Trailblazing Economist Who Navigated an Era of Upheaval (Harper Business, 2022).

Dzialga Fellows Return to NYC

For the first time since 2019, sophomores in the Dzialga Women in Finance Initiative spent part of their fall break on a networking trip to New York. They visited seven firms, meeting supportive alumni from a range of roles in investment banking and private equity. They also enjoyed dinner with '22 Dzialga grads who spoke about the first few months in their jobs and adjusting to life in the city.
