Professor of Law Beth Miller conceived and launched The Closer a decade ago, and her vision and dedication have shaped it ever since. Designed to mirror the real-world pressures of transactional practice, the competition opens each year with an unexpected twist: the Senior Partner, Professor Miller, is suddenly sidelined and must entrust the negotiations to her junior associates—the competitors. Baylor Law School’s Entrepreneurship Clinic Helping a Mission Take Root |
In Central Texas, a unique collaboration is redefining what it means to build community. Shepherd’s Way, an innovative nonprofit dedicated to empowering young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, has partnered with the Baylor Law Entrepreneurship Clinic to ensure that its mission of independence is built on a strong legal foundation.
Through its partnership with the Baylor Law Entrepreneurship Clinic, Shepherd’s Way has worked with practice-ready student attorneys to navigate nonprofit structure and governance, allowing Shepherd’s Way to focus on the residents it serves, while giving future lawyers hands-on experience using the law as a tool for social good.

| Baylor Law School’s Paper Chase Returns, Testing the Writing Skills of Texas Law Students |
Baylor Law School recently announced the winners of the annual Paper Chase Legal Writing Competition, a statewide contest highlighting the written advocacy skills of law students across Texas. Created by the Law School’s legal writing faculty, this year’s problem centered on a motion to disqualify counsel involving a law clerk who changed firms after licensure.
The competition is generously sponsored by FVF Law, founded by Baylor Lawyers Josh Fogelman, JD'08, and Aaron von Flatern, JD'11. All submissions were anonymized and evaluated by volunteer attorneys from the Texas Young Lawyers Association, ensuring an independent, unbiased review.
