Brentwood's first inclusive playground opens Saturday morning

The public is invited to attend the grand opening of an inclusive playground in Brentwood on Saturday morning.
The Miles Together Playground in Brentwood, named in the honor of Miles Peck, will open at 9 a.m. Saturday in Granny White Park, located at 610 Granny White Pike.
The park is the city’s first inclusive playground. Peck was born with Down syndrome and the Peck family lives in Brentwood. Their foundation Miles for Miles is a local nonprofit that works to enhance the lives of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Upcoming FrankTalks will ‘celebrate community’ with discussion on new initiative

Mark Maloney, former president of Rotary International, will be guest speaker at the Sept. 12 FrankTalks as he leads a discussion on “Celebrating Community.”
Maloney will begin his presentation at 9:30 a.m., following a coffee social that gets underway at 9. Hosted by Franklin Tomorrow, this month’s FrankTalks will be held in Asbury Hall at Franklin First United Methodist Church off of Mack Hatcher Parkway.
Maloney will kick off FrankTalks by discussing the Celebrate Community initiative, which was organized by four worldwide volunteer service organizations.

Football Roundup: Centennial cruises on road; Indy, CPA fall

The Centennial High School football team navigated a short week and improved to 3-1 overall with a win at Antioch on Thursday.
The Cougars were coming off a 17-14 Region 7-6A-opening loss to Independence in a game that stretched into Saturday because of weather last week. They cruised Thursday, posting a 42-6 win.

Football Preview: Brentwood welcomes old foe Henry County

BRENTWOOD – To be so far apart, there is quite a bit of history between Friday night foes Henry County and Brentwood on the high school football field.
The two schools, separated by 120 miles, were region mates several years ago and despite the distance, have kept up a series for the past three years. The Bruins hold a 2-1 advantage over that stretch, including taking the last two matchups in a row.

Board chair: Middle Tennessee Electric ‘has delivered on our mission of reliability’

Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) leadership highlighted its current and future innovations, updated cooperative members about the status of the organization and answered questions during its livestreamed Annual Meeting Saturday, Aug. 27.
In their report to the membership, Board Chairman Mike Woods and CEO Chris Jones discussed the great strides MTE made during 2021 to increase growth, provide better service to its members and fulfill its goal to be its members’ trusted energy professionals.

Leadership Middle Tennessee selects 4 from Williamson County for 2022-23 class

Four people from Williamson County started their 11-month experiential journey as part of the 2023 Leadership Middle Tennessee class. 
Patti Carroll, Bryan Doleshel, Chris Henson and Kim Randell were selected to represent Williamson County, joining business and community leaders chosen from across the 10-county Middle Tennessee region.

‘Seasoned leader’ joins Mars Petcare as senior VP for Research & Development

Cedeno has joined as senior vice president of Research & Development (R&D) to help enhance the pet nutrition business through disruption and innovation, while driving the company's purpose: A Better World for Pets.

Hard Bargain Association to host 17th annual Celebration Dinner Sept. 22

The Hard Bargain Association (HBA) will host its 17th annual Celebration Dinner Sept. 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Williamson County Enrichment Center.
The Don Adams band will entertain guests throughout the night, and Menu Maker Catering & Events will serve food. There will also be a silent auction.
The purpose of the dinner is to raise funds for HBA's various rehab projects and the $95,000 for the land purchase of the Hill Property.

Jones announced as guest speaker for upcoming Button Ball

Davis House Child Advocacy Center has recently announced that author, entrepreneur, pastor and executive Nona Jones will be the special guest speaker at the nonprofit’s annual Button Ball gala to be held Saturday, Sept. 10, at The Saint Elle in Nashville.

Franklin’s Garner, Fairview’s Grant tabbed Gateway Tire Athletes of the Week

FRANKLIN – Franklin High School junior Dylann Garner and Fairview High senior Layden Grant were selected as the latest Gateway Tire Athletes of the Week.
Garner matched a season-high in kills to help lead the Admirals volleyball team to a 2-1 record last week, while Grant scored twice and made an impact on both sides of the ball in Fairview’s 40-7 win at Stewart County in a Region 6-3A football contest.

Sean Karl Foundation to host 'Songs for Sean' songwriter night Oct. 20

The Sean Karl Foundation, a local nonprofit charity dedicated to funding promising Ewing Sarcoma research, will be hosting the "Farewell Tour: Songs For Sean Songwriter Night" on Thursday, Oct. 20.
The "Songs for Sean" event will celebrate life, community, music, all while continuing the fight against cancer.

It’s back-to-school time again so, of course, the snow-flakiest of the snowflakes have dusted off their pitchforks and re-lit their torches and, like a cloud of south Georgia summer gnats, swarmed together to aggravate the hell out the rest of us and make life even more miserable for one of the already most under-appreciated, over-worked, and stressed-out segments of our society — public school teachers.
