I hope everyone is having an amazing Fall so far! We have many amazing volunteer opportunities coming up.

To sign up for an event this month and receive a month of free Garbage to Garden service, RSVP by email and we will help answer any questions you may have. Then simply send confirmation of your volunteer hours to volunteer@garbagetogarden.org to receive credit.

Volunteer with us at Portland's Pumpkin-Cycle!

Come join us at Payson Park on Saturday 11/4 to help Portland residents responsibly dispose of their pumpkins! Residents are going to smash their pumpkins into our trailers and we are in need of some helpers. Email Bridget at volunteer@garbagetogarden.org to sign up!

Volunteer with Partners for World Health!

Their mission is to improve health care and reduce environmental impact by collecting surplus medical equipment and supplies and distributing them to communities in need.

Friday November 2nd from 1pm-4pm
Thursday November 9th from 1-4pm

Friday November 17th from 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm
Tuesday November 21st from 1pm-4pm
Thursday November 30th from 1pm-4pm

They also need helpers to keep runners on the right track and cars off the course at their Thanksgiving 4 miler!

Portland Snow Shoveling Volunteers Needed!

Hopefully we don't get any snow in November, but if we do, then we need some volunteer snow shovelers! The Age-Friendly Portland Steering Committee is looking for volunteers to shovel snow for elderly neighbors. Please reach out to Linda at lsw@portlandmaine.gov to participate!

Come door hanging with us!

In partnership with the City of Portland, we are working to promote composting efforts across Portland. We will be leading street teams to help distribute door hangers.

Friday, November 10, 2023 - 10:00am - 12:00pm

Volunteer with the Maine Medical Center (MMC) Food Pantry!

The MMC Food Pantry provides healthy food to our community members who are experiencing food insecurity.

Unloading / Re-Stocking Support: Monday & Wednesday (12:00pm-2:30pm) at 950 Congress Street in Portland

Assist on delivery days to unload pallets/vehicles and restock the main pantry area, as well as the back storage room. MONDAYS: This is a physically demanding shift and the ability to lift 25-50 lbs is preferable for the safety of volunteers. WEDNESDAYS: This is a good opportunity for volunteers with lower lifting capacity.

Anyone interested needs to complete an application on Volunteer Local. Once an application is complete, someone from MMC will reach out.

Help us bag compost!

Compost bagging happens weekly on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at our shop in Portland (as long as it is not raining). Come lend a hand for ~1.5 hours in exchange for one month of free service! Arrive anytime 9am-11am. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty!
