A Message from Alumni Council

Dear Denisonian‚
Commencement means “beginning.” For the Class of 2022, their Commencement — celebrated Saturday, May 14 — marked the beginning of the next chapter of their intellectual and personal journeys. It also means that the Class of 2022 began a new relationship with Denison as alumni of our “fair college on the hill.” To our new fellow alumni, congratulations and welcome! We’re so glad you’re here.
There are various ways for all Denison alumni to remain engaged with the university. For some of us, we keep up to date through the Denison Magazine, social media, or by reading these newsletters once a month. For others, the connection continues through attendance at events like Denison Everywhere or returning to campus every so often for Big Red Weekend or a Class Reunion. Then there are alumni who volunteer as an Admission Ambassador, an advisor or mentor for current students, or by serving on the Alumni Council or the Board of Trustees.
The upcoming Reunion Weekend will be so much fun, with alumni from 33 classes returning to Granville. For those participating, I hope Reunion Weekend is the beginning of a renewed connection to our alma mater.
Jonathan Van Balen ’02
Constituent Representative, Alumni Council

Eight memorable hours: Commencement Day starts with the sunrise
On Saturday, May 14, graduates of the Class of 2022 bookended their final day as undergraduates with two dawns.
The first arrived as the sun rose over the Mitchell Center and Piper Stadium at 6:16 a.m. during senior sunrise. The second came roughly seven hours later as tassels flipped from right to left, a ceremonial transfer empowering graduates to take what they have learned at Denison University and apply it to new chapters of life.
From enduring friendships to a provost practicing on her back porch, read the entire touching account of Commencement Day 2022. And for additional coverage, view the photos and video.
