A Legacy of Impact, A Future of Possibility

As I share this message, I do so with immense gratitude. Serving as Dean of the Grossman School of Business has been a true privilege, and I am deeply appreciative of the community that has made this journey so meaningful: our faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, and partners.

Over the past 15 years, we have worked together to build something enduring. What stands out most is not any single milestone, but the collective commitment to shaping a school defined by purpose, excellence, and impact. Together, we have strengthened our academic programs, expanded our global reputation, and advanced our mission to prepare responsible leaders for an increasingly complex, sustainable, and multi-stakeholder world.

At this spring’s commencement, we celebrated the Class of 2026 as they joined you in our global alumni community. Like you, they leave Grossman prepared to lead with ambition, curiosity, and compassion. They also carry forward a tradition that you have helped define, one rooted in innovation, generosity, and a deep sense of responsibility to others.

The progress of the Grossman School of Business has always been fueled by this community. Your engagement, mentorship, and support have been instrumental in shaping the student’s experience and extending the school’s impact far beyond campus. You are not only part of our history, but an essential part of our momentum.

As I conclude my tenure, I do so with deep confidence in the school’s future and the strength of the community that sustains it. In the months ahead, the Grossman School of Business will begin its next chapter under new leadership, building on the foundation we have created together. I am also grateful for the leadership of those who have served the school over the years, whose contributions have shaped the foundation on which we continue to build.

The true measure of our work will be seen in the generations of students and alumni who benefit from it in the years to come.

3.3.2026 | The 2026 Dean’s Cup brought together students from across UVM, along with teams from Champlain College and SUNY Plattsburgh, for our largest competition yet. The competition was supported by 21 judges, including faculty members, alumni, and business professionals from across the country. Learn More.

4.15.2026 | Hosted by the University of Vermont Women in Business, this event featured an inspiring conversation with UVM alumni Liz Paley, Deirdre Lester, and Sara Mellinger. Through candid storytelling, they shared the pivots, defining moments, and bold decisions that shaped their careers, highlighting how meaningful paths are built through courage, curiosity, and change.

Recognized for his impact in and out of the classroom, Thomas Chittenden has been named Faculty Member of the Year.

Organized by the Grossman Student Advisory Committee (GSAC) and selected by undergraduate students, this honor reflects the meaningful difference faculty make through their commitment, curiosity, and care.

Known for his signature bow ties, Michael Tomas III has now earned another distinction: 2026 Professor of the Year.

Selected by members of Beta Gamma Sigma—the international business honor society recognizing the top 5% of AACSB-accredited programs worldwide—this award celebrates Michael’s excellence in teaching and lasting impact on students.
