Meet Interim Provost Ken Walsh From the Office of the Provost
Kenneth Walsh serves as the interim provost and executive vice president of George Mason University. He joined Mason in 2020 as vice president for strategic initiatives and chief of staff in the Office of the President. He also serves as a professor in the Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering at Mason.

Christine Fox named College of Science Distinguished Alumni of the Year by Office of Alumni Relations/2023 Celebration of Distinction
The Honorable Christine Fox, BS Mathematics ’76, MS ’80, served in President Barack Obama’s administration as acting deputy secretary of defense and as director of cost assessment and program evaluation (CAPE) in the Department of Defense. As CAPE director, Fox served as the chief analyst to the secretary of defense. Most recently, she served as assistant director of policy and analysis at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory and is currently serving there as a senior fellow. This year’s event, hosted by the George Mason University Alumni Association, honored Fox as well as 15 other distinguished alumni.

Mason named to top 100 list for patents awarded in 2022by Colleen Kearney Rich
This fall, the National Academy of Inventors ranked Mason No. 91 in its list of the top 100 universities granted patents during 2022. Mason Science researchers mentioned include Professor of Mathematical Sciences Padmanabhan Seshaiyer, researchers in Mason’s Center for Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine Marissa Howard and Lance Liotta, and Professor in the School of Systems Biology Yuntao Wu.
