Dear Parents and Families,
We are reaching out to you as a Tufts parent or family member who, according to our records, lives in Hawaii. We’re excited to share that Tufts’ Jumbo Spring Break will take place in Lahaina, Maui this year and we’d like to invite you to connect with us.
What is Jumbo Spring Break?
Each year, Tufts offers students the chance to participate in a service-learning project during spring break. For this year’s break (March 14–22, 2026), we’re partnering with Habitat for Humanity to help build homes in Lahaina for and with families displaced by the 2023 wildfires. This year, 30 students, along with members of the Student Life team, are participating in the project.
Jumbo Spring Break is an expression of Tufts’ civic engagement mission that allows students to make a difference in the world. In addition to making a difference for local families, this kind of deep, experiential learning is transformational for the students who participate.
We recognize that Lahaina remains a place of deep loss and ongoing recovery. The program is being planned with care, respect, and community partnership. Students are preparing in advance with cultural and historical learning so they can participate thoughtfully and responsibly.
We thought as a parent or family member of a current student you might be interested in connecting with students in one of these ways during their time in Hawaii:
