| Equity in Aging Services: Looking 3 Years Back and 30 Years Forward
Since 2020, the Older Adults’ Equity Collaborative (OAEC), funded by the Administration for Community Living, has worked to elevate cultural competence in the aging network through active engagement with professionals, caregivers, and older adults. This capstone event will reflect on the accomplishments of the collaborative by introducing attendees to the resources and tools generated by the OAEC, and will also look ahead by stimulating conversation on the future of equity in the aging network.

| Time-Varying Food Retail and Incident Disease in the Cardiovascular Health Study
|
As part of an NIH grant, NYAM’s Senior Research Scientist Dr. David Siscovick, in collaboration with colleague Dr. Gina S. Lovasi of Drexel University’s Dornsife School of Public Health and others, demonstrates that access to healthy food retail, such as the presence of supermarkets/produce markets, is not associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease—a potentially important “negative” finding with policy implications.

New Evaluation of NYCHA’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program |
NYAM’S Center for Evaluation and Applied Research is beginning an evaluation of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Family Self-Sufficiency program. This initiative, supported by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), aims to build economic security in low-income households through education, job training and employment, money management, and funds that offset rent increases during program participation.

| East Harlem Action Collaborative (EHAC) Connects Families to Resources |
The mothers of EHAC—a program developed out of the NYAM Center for Community Partnerships and Policy Solutions—were concerned that families do not know about resources and programs that can support their children’s development. NYAM supported their development of an East Harlem Resource Guide, available in English, Spanish and Mandarin, to help families connect with services that support children’s health and well-being.

Congratulations to Dr. Salerno on receiving the Distinguished Scholar award, the most prestigious appointment in the Fulbright Scholar Program. Dr. Salerno will spend four months in São Paulo, Brazil, working with the medical faculty at the University of São PauloCollaborative project on advancing healthy aging. |
