UMSL sport management students work Super Bowl LVI


Dr. Karen Boleska, director of the UMSL COE BS in Sport Management Program, and seven students traveled to Los Angeles to volunteer at Super Bowl LVI. The students were among the thousands of volunteers who contributed to the production of the event. They worked at field level before the game and during the first quarter, validating credentials and monitoring access to restricted areas of SoFi Stadium.

UMSL Black Faculty and Staff Association names public lecture series after Dr. Jerome E. Morris

The UMSL Black Faculty and Staff Association renamed its public lecture series after the organization’s former president, Dr. Jerome Morris, the E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor of Urban Education.

Education Alumna Sarah Hecht named Hazelwood School District Teacher of the Year

Sarah Hecht was named Hazelwood School District Teacher of the Year by her peers. Hecht, a two-time UMSL education graduate, teaches second grade at McCurdy Elementary School. She attended the Hazelwood School District as a student, graduating from Hazelwood Central High School in 2003, and still lives in the area.

St. Louis Symphony Orchestra names UMSL alumna Yolanda Alovor inaugural vice president of external affairs and equity, diversity and inclusion

Yolanda “Yoli” Alovor, a graduate of the UMSL College of Education, will provide strategic leadership for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s growing equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives and work to raise the institution’s profile locally, nationally and internationally.

Education students hone entrepreneurial skills with help of UMSL Accelerate


Last semester’s “Social Entrepreneurship” class was led by Dr. Theresa Coble, E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor of Experiential and Family Education (front row, second from left) and saw increased collaboration with UMSL Accelerate. The class is designed to teach the skills necessary to solve problems in society and identify sustainable models for social innovation. Over the course of a semester, students work in groups to develop innovative social ventures.
