Summer Reading
We're having fun at the library all summer long with this year's Summer Reading theme: Libraries Rock!
We're challenging the Longview community to read every day! The benefits of reading for pleasure have been scientifically proven: reading builds empathy, reduces stress, improves focus, memory, and analytical skills, and helps kids do better in school. Reading together builds strong relationships - whether it's a parent reading with a child or adults joining a book club. And, of course, reading can be really fun!
Everyone - babies through adults! - can earn prizes for reading by signing up and keeping track of your reading on Beanstack. Looking for something to read? Beanstack can help you there as well! Readers can personalize their profiles for book recommendations and browse library-created book lists.
Summer fun continues with events for all ages! Babies, toddlers, and their grown-ups are invited to Baby Beats, a special sing-along story time for our littlest library friends held Wednesday mornings beginning June 20. On Fridays, starting June 22, is Rock of Pages, a family story time that welcomes all ages for books, songs, jokes, and crafts. Summer events for teens kick off Tuesday, June 26 with a 90s Party at 6 PM. On Wednesday, June 27 at 3 PM we'll be hosting a special Family Sock Hop in the Library Auditorium featuring DJ Rick Yates! We'll have more events through July, ending with our big outdoor picnic on Tuesday, July 31 starring the dad-band Micah and Me. We'll also be celebrating adult summer reading with a performance by the Kilted Man on August 15 at 6 PM.
You don't want to miss a moment of our rockin' summer! Pre-register on Beanstack today!
Baby Beats Wednesdays 10:30 AM
Rock of Pages Fridays 10:30 AM

Volunteers Needed! Enjoy talking with children and promoting reading? Volunteer with the Summer Reading program! Volunteer Orientations: Saturday, June 9 10 AM; Tuesday, June 12 6 PM
We're looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to help with our Summer Reading program! As a Summer Reading Volunteer you will welcome children and teens into the library and help families sign up, track their reading, and redeem prizes using our online program Beanstack. You can also help with special events! Shifts are available all hours the library is open from June 14 - August 4, and you can set the schedule that works best for you. Volunteering with Summer Reading helps your community - and earns volunteer hours for school! Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and pass a state background check.
Pick up an application from the lower floor desk and attend one of two volunteer orientations held Saturday, June 9 at 10 AM and Tuesday, June 12 at 6 PM. Questions? Contact Jakob: 360.442.5308 or jakob.collins@ci.longview.wa.us
