Thank You for LIVING UNITED

Dear Bridges Society Members:

I am Jason Brown, an employee of Enterprise Rent-A-Car and your 2016 Bridges Society chair.

2015 was an outstanding year for the Bridges Society and I want to say THANK YOU. Because of your generosity, we were able to grow our total membership to more than 640 donors and increase our total United Way contribution to more than $960,000!

Your generosity and commitment to the service of others was on display during multiple signature events including Youth Day of Caring and the Barnes & Noble field trips. In addition to helping others, we hosted opportunities for leaders to connect during the Bridges Society and Women’s Leadership Network Breakfast, the joint Bridges Society and Tocqueville Society event, as well as a Bridges evening reception at the Millworks.

I’m excited to announce that this June we will hold a new type of event that features both networking and volunteering! Check out the story below for more information.

For us to continue bringing leaders together to serve and give back to our community, we need support from members like you. This year, I ask that you continue supporting the great work of United Way by staying engaged with the Bridges Society. I also ask you to invite others who share the same passion in strengthening our community to join us. The collective impact we can make when we all work together is truly amazing!

Thank you again for continuing to LIVE UNITED and I look forward to working with you and future members during our 2016 United Way campaign!

Sincerely,
Jason Brown

Bridges Society Partners with Students to Clean Up City Island

More than 200 local high school students and 60 Bridges Society volunteers spent Friday, April 8 volunteering for United Way of the Capital Region’s 14th Annual Youth Day of Caring.

Despite a cold and snowy start to the day, the crew of students and adults completed a full-scale clean-up of Harrisburg’s City Island to ready it for the spring and summer seasons.

Volunteers were able to tackle projects that would otherwise have taken weeks to complete with visible results at the end of the day. Weeds and overgrown brush were cleared, gazeebos were painted, and the City Islanders’ press box was painted. Even the city’s maintenance crew was amazed by how much was accomplished. The park is now ready for people from our entire community to enjoy.

Thank you to all of the Bridges Society members who served as volunteer project leaders, chaperones, photographers and hospitality support. This could not have been accomplished without you.

We would also like to thank all of the sponsors for supporting this amazing day: Members 1st Federal Credit Union (Lead Sponsor), Capital Blue (Lunch Sponsor), Harrisburg Kiwanis Youth Foundation (Sponsor), PSECU (Sponsor), Belco Community Credit Union (In-Kind Sponsor) and Classic Dry Cleaners (In-Kind Sponsor).

Bridges Society Networking and Volunteer Event

Join us on Thursday, June 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center for a fun networking and volunteer event. Enjoy delicious food and beverages while you and your fellow members pack dental kits for local families in need.

Dental supplies cannot be purchased with food stamps which makes dental health a struggle for many low-income families. Dental kits reach children who are most at-risk for experiencing poor oral health and least able to access dental care. This event is a great chance to volunteer and network at the same time.

You will receive an e-vite with a registration link in the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing you in June!

Dental Care Kit Supply Drive:

Prior to the event, we are asking Bridges Society members to run dental supply drives to collect items for the kits. If you would like to organize a drive at your workplace, contact Michelle Loomis at mloomis@uwcr.org. Please let us know by May 20, if your company will be participating, so that we have an accurate idea of items being collected.
