Pictures of the Week

Last Saturday, the Brebeuf Jesuit community Rocked Bistro!
We want to sincerely thank the entire Brebeuf Jesuit community for joining us at Brebeuf Rocks Bistro on Saturday featuring Yacht Rock Revue at the Biltwell, whether you did so in person, or in spirit.
It was a wonderful evening of fellowship and generosity. Having so many parents of current, past and prospective students, alumni and friends all in one room was a blessing. The evening was particularly special as we honored our beloved Father Jack with our VIP Sponsor Reception and 50/50 Raffle establishing a scholarship fund in his legacy. The evening was capped off with an unforgettable performance by Yacht Rock Revue, with a guest performance by our very own Greg VanSlambrook.
Many thanks to all of our generous sponsors, committees, and volunteers for their enduring support!
See you next year!

Student Spotlight

Loves About Brebeuf
I love the opportunities Brebeuf gives to students to succeed not only in the classroom, but outside of the classroom as well. It’s not just about becoming a better student, but also about becoming a better person. Brebeuf allows you to live out your passions in many ways, and I love how there’s a space for everyone. I also really love the people at Brebeuf. Whether it’s the close community, helpful teachers, or lifelong friendships I’ve made, the people at Brebeuf are amazing.
Favorite Class
My favorite classes have been Honors Anatomy with Mrs. McCarter and Honors English 10 with Mrs. Neukam. Anatomy was such a hands-on class, and I really enjoyed the labs that we were able to do. Mrs. McCarter really knew how to keep the class interesting and fun. English with Mrs. Neukam was enjoyable because she really helped me develop my writing, and I was able to analyze material on a deeper level.
Future Plans
I do not know where I will be attending college yet, but I am interested in studying neuroscience, psychology, and political science.
Teams and Co-Curriculars
Varsity Tennis Team
Student Council
President of Asian Student Union
Ignatian Scholars
Brebeuf Ambassador
Brebeuf Mentors Program with Nora Elementary
Investment Club
Academic Super Bowl
National Honors Society
Outside of Brebeuf
Vice-President of Carmel Mayor’s Youth Council
Founder of Special Olympics Tennis Program in Zionsville and Carmel
Random Facts
Most of my friends already know this, but I can put both of my feet behind my head at the same time.
During senior year, my friends and I meet on the first friday of every month and have a potluck breakfast before school. It’s been one of my highlights of senior year.
I used to do Bollywood dancing when I was little.
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc?
My favorite shows on Netflix include The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Law and Order SVU.
If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?
I would love to travel to Australia one day. My ideal day would be watching tennis at the Australian Open, playing with kangaroos, and chilling on a beach there.
Tell us about your upcoming trip to China...
Over Spring Break, I will be going to China for about 10 days. I consider myself an avid traveler and love exploring different parts of the world as well as experiencing different cultures. I truly believe that anyone is able to gain different perspectives on life and gain more knowledge by traveling and experiencing the world. One of my goals in life is to visit all 7 wonders of the world. So far, I have only seen the Taj Mahal in India and the Chichen Itza in Mexico, and I am excited to see the Great Wall of China over break. My parents and I will be touring across the country and visiting many cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Guangzhou. I can’t wait to immerse myself in the beautiful culture of China and experience all that the country has to offer.
You are now in your final semester at Brebeuf Jesuit.  Has it sunk in yet?
Definitely not. The excitement of graduation is definitely there, but I don’t think that it has sunk in that high school is really almost over. This might sound cliche, but it really does feel like freshman year was yesterday. Four years flies by so fast and the fact that we are all moving on to a new chapter in our lives doesn’t seem real yet.
In what way have you changed the most since your freshman year?
I’ve definitely matured a lot since freshman year. I came into Brebeuf as a frazzled, stressed out little freshman who was very naive and assumed that everything was going to be perfect. Little did I know that the stress of balancing everything would be harder than it looks. I started to realize that high school was not meant to be perfect and learning from my mistakes was integral to being successful. I now realize that one bad test grade isn’t the end of the world, and I’ve become a more optimistic person because of this growth.

Scholarship/Financial Aid News and Announcements
The backbone of all financial aid is the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) which opened on October 1 at www.fafsa.gov and should be completed as soon as possible for the 2018-19 year. Many schools also require completion of the CSS Profile CSS Profile, administered by the College Board, which asks more specific questions and accesses additional funds. The FAFSA is free; the CSS Profile has a small fee.
The VAST majority of scholarships (merit aid) are found within the individual college admission/financial aid websites and academic departments. Be on the lookout for additional essays, recommendations/nominations, and deadlines for these opportunities at the colleges to which you’ve applied.
Search for a specific scholarships in Naviance Family Connection in the “Scholarship List” under the Colleges tab. Sort by Scholarship name, Deadline, or Categories. Websites such as Scholarships.com and Fastweb.com are useful as well.

Brebeuf Jesuit's Spring Musical - The King and I

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I is a moving, radiant story of East meets West.
It is the early 1860s when newly widowed Anna Leonowens sets sail from her native England for Siam. Anna has taken a position as the schoolteacher for the children of the King of Siam. The King is determined to usher Siam into the modern world, and he thinks Western education can be a part of that. The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by rulers of the West, and he takes Anna on as an advisor, asking her to help change his image. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King teach each other about understanding, respect, and love that can transcend the greatest of differences.
The King and I is full of beautiful music, traditional dance, and witty dialogue that has delighted audiences since 1951.

Others assisting with planning and preparation, included Delia Novak, Julia Hiatt, and Katharine Melind. Let’s celebrate these students and their tremendous work in social justice.

The Brebeuf Food Drive Has Launched!

Brebeuf Jesuit is once again holding a canned food drive during Lent, February 14-March 29, 2018.
For years, our students, faculty, staff, and families have participated in this meaningful drive supporting St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry, donating enough cans of food to fill two semi-trucks! In addition, cash donations from our school community are able to buy tens of thousands of pounds of food each year.
Homeroom classrooms at Brebeuf will hold collections to once again to compete for the grand prize – a pizza party. To maximize our school’s impact, this year’s goal is for every student and staff member is to collect 20 cans each.
St. Vincent de Paul feeds roughly 3,300 families every week, or roughly 12,000 individuals, many of whom are children and the elderly. Every can is helpful!
How to Help
To contribute to the drive, send any canned food items to Brebeuf Jesuit with a Brebeuf student, who will deliver the items to their homeroom collection. To contribute monetarily (Make checks out to: St. Vincent de Paul, memo: Food Pantry), and bring donations of support to the Main Lobby Desk at Brebeuf Jesuit.
By coming together during this food drive, the entire Brebeuf Jesuit community can make an incredible difference in the lives of thousands in need here in Indianapolis! Let’s bring in those cans to your student’s homeroom and support St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry.
