Notes from Dept. Head 📝
Friend,
The Department of Environmental Science (ENVS) has partnered with faculty colleagues at the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU) in Yangling, China to create a new UArizona Global Microcampus program. The ENVS Microcampus enables NWAFU students to obtain B.S. degrees in Environmental Science that are conferred by both NWAFU and the University of Arizona. New ENVS faculty are currently being hired to teach many of the same signature courses that our UArizona-based students take here in Tucson, and we will soon have six full-time ENVS faculty on-site in Yangling .
In this first year of the program, we are pleased to already have 86 students on board. By year four, we anticipate around 400 ENVS majors in our NWAFU-based program. We will be welcoming some of these students who choose to visit the University of Arizona for a semester or more during their studies. The partnership represents an exciting new activity for our ENVS team, and it brings unique opportunities for teaching and research collaborations with an awesome team of environmental scientists in China. We’ll keep you posted on this program as it develops.

ENVS X Landmark Stories We tell stories to engage and relate. Our partnership with Landmark Stories is one example of how ENVS scientists communicate broadly science-related experiences. This month we highlight Dr. Jean McLain and Jesus Solis-Leon (MS '19), both involved in our People Behind the Science series established in 2019.
At ENVS, we strive to find solutions to diverse environmental challenges. Many times, this means talking about science in novel ways. We hope you enjoy the videos.
