Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
Grounded in Harvest Our Treasures principles and a key component of the related Seeds of Innovation initiative, progress continues in establishing the new College of Human Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM). Faculty, administrators and staff from the Colleges of Communication and the Arts, and Education and Human Services are advancing collaboration via a steering committee, task forces and frequent engagement activities, including a recent, well-attended meet-and-greet event.
Aligned with our phased implementation and formation of the CHDCM, I am sharing an important update regarding the implementation timeline and the new unit’s leadership team, which are key components in the next stage of integration. Given the anticipated programmatic portfolio expansion and related enrollment growth, incremental integration of leadership and administration will begin this January — six months ahead of the college’s launch in July and first enrolled students in Fall 2023.
I am pleased to announce that Joseph Martinelli, Ed.D., will serve as Interim Dean of the new integrated college during its transition and implementation phases. Key priorities of Interim Dean Martinelli’s leadership will include:
-
advancing the college’s multi-year implementation plan;
- promoting a culture of inclusive excellence across faculty, administrators, staff and students;
- closely collaborating with campus partners to effectively engage internal and external stakeholders;
- and championing strategic initiatives designed to establish the new college as an institution of national and international distinction.
Simultaneously and as part of the phased implementation, a search firm will be retained and a committee convened with faculty representation as outlined in the Faculty Guide, to conduct a comprehensive national search for a Founding Dean.
Coincident with anticipated growth and operational targets, two additional members of the leadership team will assume enhanced responsibilities beginning in January. Renee Robinson, Ph.D., will be appointed as Vice Dean of Faculty Affairs, an innovative role designed to lead, liaise and collaborate with faculty and administrators to expand and elevate the College’s programmatic offerings grounded in market trends and innovation.
Likewise, Ryan Hudes, Ph.D., will be appointed as Senior Associate Dean of Strategy, Planning, and Administration, with functional areas of responsibility and leadership that include the integration of strategy, enrollment management, communications and outreach, accreditation and assessment, and engagement.
Additional updates regarding the continued implementation of CHDCM and key milestones will be shared in the coming months. Please join me in acknowledging the continued, important work of the engaged faculty, administrators and staff in the establishment of the exciting new college, as well as offering best wishes to the leadership team.

Global Corner: Scholarships Abroad |
Seton Hall's new Study Abroad website has greatly expanded over the past year with brand new resources to make studying abroad more accessible to students. Included in these new resources is a Scholarships Abroad hub for students and their families looking to support their international adventures. The page includes both Seton Hall and external scholarships, with different categories reflecting various student interests and needs. Please feel free to share this resource with your students. This is not a static list and many more study abroad scholarships will be added in the future. If you know of a study abroad scholarship that students can apply to that is not listed on the Scholarships Abroad hub, please email studyabroad@shu.edu and the team over at the Office of International Programs will be happy to add it right away. All study abroad scholarships should have a link to an active scholarship application.

Academies Applications Due December 15
We continue to receive applications for and inquiries about our second round of Academies. As you are aware, throughout the Strategic Planning process, faculty expressed eagerness to teach, research, and innovate in collaboration with colleagues in other departments and colleges at Seton Hall. The Academies initiative addresses this objective by providing up to three years of variable funding and freedom to empower faculty projects that stretch beyond their existing responsibilities and program. The first seven Academies have already been highly successful securing prestigious grants, drafting new program proposals, supporting and mentoring original student scholarship, and conducting interdisciplinary research projects. We welcome projects that address all different faculty goals—teaching, scholarship, diversity, mission, service--though we are especially interested in proposals that promote grant submissions, graduate program development, and the globalization of our faculty and students.
