Regional Approach to Tourism!

On August 30, the Minne Road-Trip Coop (Owatonna, Faribault & Northfield) spoke on a panelist at the Southern MN League of Municipalities meeting in Red Wing, MN with eight other cities. The discussion was about the need for a regional approach to tourism in SE MN.  The audience consisted of city mayors, councilmembers, clerks, administrators, managers, Public Works Directors, city economic development staff and regional economic development groups.

Eight presenters including Minne Road Trip, Rochester, Winona, Austin and a few other southern tourism counties in the SE MN shared ideas that will help our region move forward with tourism.

Collectively we discussed how we envision a more regional approach to tourism for SE MN.  The basic discussion points were:

What do we see as the goals for a regional tourism effort? & What ways do we think we could work toward that as a region?

Great ideas were shared on how to grow tourism in southern Minnesota.

The U of MN Extension is gathering input on this, and has put together a group to collect ideas, look for good examples to model, and try to move this forward for SE MN and even broader area.
